Human Events -- Anyone Subscribe to it? (Vanity)
Posted on 06/23/2003 2:02:28 PM PDT by Munch
I already get a lot of great reading material from townhall.com and frontpagemag.com.
Does anybody subscribe to Human Events? Is it worth the subscription price?
Would you suggest NRO or any other periodical that may be better?
Any thoughts? Thanks so much !

I do and like it very much - it is focused and informative - I also get Wash. Times Weekly edition and it well worth the price. Both are great.

I don't know, but I picked up The Atlantic yesterday. There's a great read in it by Richard Kaplan. I'd recommend it.

In better times, I subscribed to HE, and recommend it highly. The Wall Street Journal's editorial page is worth reading, but kind of pricey. For a local paper with excellent editorials, you can't beat the Florida Times-Union.

I used to subscribe to it but the concentration is more from a national perspective. I liked it but prefer to focus on a state and local persepective. I also subscribe to World Magazine. I actually like that better than HUman Events because it has a Christian flavor. It takes events and nicely ties it into my values and beliefs without being a hysterical Christian tabloid kind of magazine. In amy event, Human Events is worth the money - it just depends on what your focus is.

I got an e-mail from "Ann Coulter" that suggests she reads Human Events every day. You can get her new book for free if you subscribe to HE for $39.95 (for 35 weeks).

I have subscribed without interuption since Jan 1965. At that time, you could have received a lifetime subscription for $100. Would have saved so much had I done so, but don't begrudge them the funds.
HE was Ronald Reagan's favorite. And he was a subscriber long before he sought elective office. The story goes that his White House staff used to try to hide it from him when it arrived, because they new he'd take news items from it an work them into his speeches. His son Michael has done ads for it in recent time.
In the almost 40 years I've subscribed, the only complaint I've had about it is that when Goldwater died, they didn't give him the cover. Regardless, I could not go without it each week. Especially during the election season when they do three "races of the week" starting about June July through Election day.

My Human Events subscription is well worth it. Best to subscribe when you can get a good freebie like Ann Coulter's new book. You won't want to be without it during the election cycle or most any time hot news breaks. Enjoy!

I subscribed for a couple of years but stopped for one reason only-- timeliness. I wrote to the subscription department and said getting every issue 5 or 6 days after the median delivery day was getting to be no fun. And it's not like I live in the sticks either. (They just said some zip codes don't get great service with respect to HE deliveries and there wasn't much they could do about it.)
What they need to do is precisely what The Weekly Standard did 2 years ago: Make their full weekly issue available as a downloadable PDF the day the issue comes out for paid subscribers. That's what is keeping me a happy Weekly Standard reader. Download their whole magazine over coffee every Saturday morning.

I like the Washington Times Weekly, The Weekly Standard, World and First Things. The Atlantic has gotten better in the past few years.

I've subscribed to Human Events and Washington Times Weekly since 1994. Human Events is where I first started reading Ann Coulter. Definitely worth it.
