A Plot to Deceive?
Washington Post ^ | 06/08/03 | Robert Kagan

Posted on 06/07/2003 1:56:19 PM PDT by Pokey78

There is something surreal about the charges flying that President Bush lied when he said that Saddam Hussein was in possession of weapons of mass destruction. In Europe, and especially in Britain, where Tony Blair is also under fire, the idea has actually taken hold that the charge against Iraq was a complete fabrication.

The absurdity of these accusations is mind-boggling. Start with this: The Iraqi government in the 1990s admitted to U.N. weapons inspectors that it had produced 8,500 liters of anthrax, as well as a few tons of the nerve agent VX. Where are they? U.N. weapons inspectors have been trying to answer that question for a decade. Because Hussein's regime refused to answer, the logical presumption was that they had to be somewhere still in Iraq.

There was more direct intel linking Saddam to WMD and the development of delivery systems than there ever was linking to Al-Qaeda to a specific attack on the US, yet the Libs want to crucify this admin for acting on the former and not being able to stop the latter.

President Bush needs to read parts of this to the nation along with the report they are declassifing...he needs to take it to the creeps that are trying to make this political!

GREAT ARTICLE!!!

Kagan just became one of my favorite columnist. This is exactly what we need, to have Republicans and columnists point out the truth, going back years, of how everyone was fully convinced, based on EVIDENCE, that Iraq had WMD, and how absurd the accusations are today, that Bush lied about Iraq having WMD.
===
"Blix reported as well that 6,500 "chemical bombs" that Iraq admitted producing still remained unaccounted for. Blix's team calculated the amount of chemical agent in those bombs at 1,000 tons.

Finally, we get to Bill Clinton. In a speech delivered at the Pentagon in February 1998, Clinton described what he called Iraq's "offensive biological warfare capability, notably 5,000 gallons of botulinum, which causes botulism; 2,000 gallons of anthrax; 25 biological-filled Scud warheads; and 157 aerial bombs."

Is anyone else getting tired of all of this WMD talk.

As usual, lacking any issues where they have the support of the American public the DNC orders have went out to employ the dreaded Weapons of Mass Distraction. My prediction is that they will get killed with this one just like they have been blitzed by Bush on ever over major issue. All it takes is a few chemicals in a few barrels buried 50 feet underground. They will find them and when they do the silence from the Dems will be deafining.

Be patient.

Good points! Do you know if our troops have finished checking all of those underground tunnels in and around Bagdad yet? Anybody? I know it must be a monumental job.Who knows how long those tunnels are.

Somebody posted on a thread the other night that Bill Gertz told Brit Hume that he felt that WMD's or what's left of them will be found within 6 months!
