In this worst of all budget years, Democrats in Sacramento are maneuvering to keep health care reform alive -- by trying to trade broader health insurance for major changes to the state worker's compensation laws.

The push to provide health insurance for all Californians has been threatened by the lack of money to pay for new programs. That has left legislative leaders turning to employers, who already provide health insurance for about two-thirds of state residents under 65, and asking them to make a deal they may find unacceptable.

And, since you can't golden eggs from a dead goose, all the businesses will move out of state, go naked (without any such insurance and pocket the savings), or go broke.

What a mess.

Have you looked at the district lines for the assembly and the senate? There is no way you are throwing the dems out until and unless you have a GOP governor in 2010 who can force a fair plan to be drawn. And by that time the only people left in the state will be illegal aliens, government employees and welfare breeders.

Until we address the problem on the demand side, meaning people who consume services without paying for them directly, even if they are paying for them indirectly through insurance,we will never be able to hold the cost of healthcare down. California, by trying to expand the number of people covered via mandatory insurance, will only expand the problem. Besides, will all the illegal aliens in the state be paying for coverage?

In some way, this may make the illegal immigration problem worse in California. If employers are mandated to provide health insurance, this will give them even greater incentive to use undocumented workers, because they will not be providing them benefits.

Ah, yes. I overlooked the obvious there. All big businesses will move out of the state and all small businesses will employ no one except family members and illegal aliens.
