Until we address the problem on the demand side, meaning people who consume services without paying for them directly,even if they are paying for them indirectly through insurance,we will never be able to hold the cost of healthcare down. California, by trying to expand the number of people covered via mandatory insurance, will only expand the problem. Besides, will all the illegal aliens in the state be paying for coverage?

In some way, this may make the illegal immigration problem worse in California. If employers are mandated to provide health insurance, this will give them even greater incentive to use undocumented workers, because they will not be providing them benefits.
