United Way in Dade ends Boy Scout funding (Miami Leftists Say Scouts Are Anti-Gay)

The United Way of Miami-Dade on Tuesday discontinued its funding for boy scouting programs, saying the local Boy Scouts of America affiliate failed to abide by an agreement requiring it to help gay youths cope with their sexuality.
In a private meeting, the United Way's board of directors voted unanimously to withhold its yearly funding grant of $480,000 for ''traditional scouting programs,'' according to the agency's spokeswoman, Tamara Klingler.
The grant serves primarily to pay the salaries of scout leaders in low-income areas including Little Havana, Liberty City, Homestead and Hialeah. About 4,200 kids, most between ages 6 and 17, will be directly affected by the cuts, she said.

...the local Boy Scouts of America affiliate failed to abide by an agreement requiring it to help gay youths cope with their sexuality. Did the Boy Scouts fail to do anything or fail to help gay youths in a manner proscribed by local gay groups, i.e. openly allow gays into the Boy Scouts? I suspect the latter since it gives the UW a convenient out while giving the BS a black eye.

Yes, they are - an amazingly subtle machanism for funding the most obscene liberal causes one might imagine! We give directly to March of Dimes and Salvation Army! We avoid United Way, Combined Federal Campaign, et.al., like plague since discovering where at least a portion of their money goes (it ain't pretty!!).

United Way chapters in university towns and big cities (RAT cesspools) have blackballed the Boy Scouts. The United Way chapter in my neighborhood still supports the Scouts. However, I will not donate my money to them. The United Way is an unneccessary middle man. In fact, the United Way administrators "earn" their living by being middle men. We ought to donate our money directly to the charities of our choice instead of wasting our time and earnings with the United Way.

The United Way will cave on this issue if participants in Miami Dade take a stand and cut funding to the United Way, both through individual contributions and through any city or county grants that UW is receiving.
This was successfully accomplished several years ago in Winston-Salem, NC, partly through the leadership of conservative Republican Alderman Vernon Robinson, who is currently running for Congress in the 5th district.
Even though Winston-Salem is smaller and different than Miami, there are lessons that apply to Miami/Dade. The fact is pressure will cause the United Way to reverse course, if Conservatives show their principles and backbone.
The first step is to begin to rally the troops. Bump this thread and ping anyone you know in the Miami area!

Point of order
Homosexual propaganda 101as seen in the Lib Media
ANTI-Gay assumes anti-person
the BSA is NOT anti-person only anti-immoral-behavior.

Anyone who donates to the UW needs to read the brochure that lists all of the organizations who get the contributions. One reading will convince you that you should either direct your funds to a specific charity or not contribute.
The first problem with directing your funds to a specific charity is that it may do no good. The UW develops a contribution budget for each agency it supports. So, if they decide to give the Boy Scouts $500,000, your directed contribution becomes part of that pot. Your contribution is not over and above that pot.
The second problem is that UW keeps about 15% of all directed contributions for it own admin. expenses.
So, the best thing is not to give to UW. Rather, make a commitment to give the same amount directly to a deserving agency of your choice. I did that several years ago and make quarterly contributions directly to an organization with minimum admin. expenses. I feel much better about it.

I did that several years ago and make quarterly contributions directly to an organization with minimum admin. expenses.Precisely! Opt out of the United Way, PERIOD. If you are in a workplace where you experience subtle pressure to participate, directly state that it would be against your principles to support an organization that does not respect the BSA's right to determine its own values or the right of citizens in general to free association!
In most cases, despite any gentle pressures, if you have a good or reasonably principled employer, you will only gain their additional respect. If you have an unprincipled employer, what have you got to lose anyway?

I quit giving to the United Way two years ago despite the incredible pressure that my company places on each employee to give.
I now give the same amount to the Boy Scouts and the Salvation Army that I used to give to United Way.
If my employer doesn't like it, tough. I turn in my pledge card with a big fat ZERO.

read the brochure that lists all of the organizations who get the contributions United Way also gives to Planned Parenhood, if I am not mistaken.

How bogus is the United Way now? I was a Boy Scout for a couple years and then had to quit to attend the school I attend now.
Let's look at this from a logical standpoint. Suppose there were gay boys allowed in the Scouts. I doubt very much that any other straight Scout in the troop would be willing to even consider being a camping buddy with the gay Scout. In this case, the emotional cost of exclusion is less than that of inclusion (ugh... did that *emotional cost* part sound the least bit liberal? I hope not...)
I grew up in a military family so I'm cool with the don't ask don't tell policy. I don't care really, just as long as they don't try to involve me in it. Once they openly admit to me that they are gay, they effectively open themselves to my criticism.
