Bush fans turn up heat on Disney Plus: Terrorism tames Terminator; Spears’ tattoo boo-boo

With Ashley Pearson MSNBC

May 13 — Get ready for the Bushies vs. Mickey Mouse. Some stalwart supporters of the president are organizing a boycott of Disney after it was revealed that a subsidiary of the company is helping finance Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which is expected to come out in time for the 2004 election and reportedly will show links between the Bush dynasty and Osama bin Laden.

‘We’ve weathered storms before.’ — SOURCE ON FRIDAY, Variety reported that Disney’s Miramax Films would provide interim funding for the flick after Mel Gibson’s Icon Productions dropped the project. “Financing Michael Moore’s 2004 ‘Attack Film’ on Bush is UNACCEPTABLE,” notes the conservative Web site Free Republic, which gives contact numbers for people to complain to both Miramax and Disney.

The site also urges boycotts of all Disney products, including DisneyWorld and even ABC. A source close to Miramax says the company is undaunted. “We’ve weathered storms before.” When asked about the planned boycott by Free Republic, the insider said, “Whoever they are, they’re entitled to their opinion.” Want some inside Scoop from America's premier online gossip columnist? Tamed-down Terminator

He’s back! Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator returns to save the world from apocalypse in the upcoming “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” — but audiences won’t be seeing everything in the original script. The flick was made a tad less violent because of the Sept. 11 attacks, according to the brawny actor. “A huge plane crash” was cut from the film, the actor told a special edition of Maxim magazine in an issue that comes out today. “That was rewritten because one, it was too close to 9/11 and two, it was too expensive.” It’s not the first time the terrorist attacks had an impact on one of Schwarzenegger’s films. “Collateral Damage,” about a firefighter seeking revenge for a terrorist act, was delayed for a year due to fears that Americans might not want to see such a film shortly after 9/11. Warner Bros., which is distributing “Terminator 3,” had no comment at press time. Love The Scoop? Try ‘The Juice!’ Monday through Friday in MSNBC Living

Notes from all over

Sometimes, dating the boss’s daughter comes in handy. Tobey Maguire recently admitted that “inappropriate” behavior almost led to his getting axed from the “Spider-Man” sequel. That behavior isn’t as salacious as it may sound; apparently, he didn’t tell them about back problems that interfered with the shooting. But Maguire is dating Jennifer Meyer, daughter of Universal chief Ron Meyer, who went to bat for Tobey. Maguire got the role in the sequel. . . . You just can’t keep Bill Bennett away from the casinos. Last week, the gambling moral crusader, who reportedly lost some $8 million at slot machines and video poker machines, spoke to a Rotarian group at Oneida Bingo and Casino in Green Bay, Wis., according to the Las Vegas Sun, which notes that the casino spokesman “refused to say whether Bennett participated in gaming activities.” . . .

Bummer for Britney Spears. Not long ago, the belly-baring crooner got a tattoo that she thought meant “mysterious” in Japanese, according to the London Sunday Mirror. Her friend, “Crossroads” co-star Taryn Manning got the same one. “I was getting changed recently in Japan and a woman laughed when she saw my tattoo. She told me it means strange, which is not cool,” Manning told the Mirror. “[Britney] was absolutely devastated when I told her.”

Maybe Disney needs to simply be asked, "Can you guys really afford to back another money-loser?!"

Disney's not hard to boycott. Any movie that's gonna be a festival of tinfoil-hat fantasies from the DU is gonna make it easier still to boycott Disney.

It is easy to boycott Disney, since all they churn out is mindless crap in the first place.

They have already said this piece of propoganda was going to be released right before the 2004 election. Someone should sue Disney, Moore, ect. for exceeding campaign contribution limits.

the Bushies vs. Mickey Mouse

This was posted earlier, but I'll repeat my comment:
Notice how the alleged "journalist" portrays this - as somebody attacking Mickey Mouse.
To my knowledge, no one has called for any attacks on this cartoon character.
But the idiot "journalist' chooses to frame it like that.

And I'll bet that not once were any of Bill Clinton's supporters ever referred to as "Billies", or anything like it.

No, there's no bias in the media, none at all.

You know that your singing career is in the crapper when you are reduced to doing the theme song for a Disney animovie. Just ask Elton John, Phil Collins, and Vanessa Williams.

Wasn't Bushies started by that idiot, The Dowdy One, aka Maureen Dowd?

We can only hope the Dixie Chicks do the theme song for the next Disney movie.

According to current campaign finance deform law, the NRA, a group that fights for the civil rights of millions of Americans, can not air any ads 2 months before a general election, but socialist elitists at Disney can subsidize (and market) a propoganda attack against the President.

I would consider any $$ spent by Disney on this film as an in-kind contribution to the Dem party. And prosecute accordingly.

The swastika was a "good luck" symbol in American at least during the 1920s. The Nazis forever changed that perception.

Mickey Mouse was a "funny" little cartoon character (created by Ub Iwerks) in the 1920s-1950s. After that, he wasn't as active except in advertising. Nowadays, he is the figurehead of an evil empire.
