May 13 Get ready for the Bushies vs. Mickey Mouse. Some stalwart supporters of the president are organizing a boycott of Disney after it was revealed that a subsidiary of the company is helping finance Michael Moores Fahrenheit 9/11, which is expected to come out in time for the 2004 election and reportedly will show links between the Bush dynasty and Osama bin Laden.
Weve weathered storms before. SOURCE ON FRIDAY, Variety reported that Disneys Miramax Films would provide interim funding for the flick after Mel Gibsons Icon Productions dropped the project. Financing Michael Moores 2004 Attack Film on Bush is UNACCEPTABLE, notes the conservative Web site Free Republic, which gives contact numbers for people to complain to both Miramax and Disney.
The site also urges boycotts of all Disney products, including DisneyWorld and even ABC. A source close to Miramax says the company is undaunted. Weve weathered storms before. When asked about the planned boycott by Free Republic, the insider said, Whoever they are, theyre entitled to their opinion. Want some inside Scoop from America's premier online gossip columnist? Tamed-down Terminator
Hes back! Arnold Schwarzeneggers Terminator returns to save the world from apocalypse in the upcoming Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines but audiences wont be seeing everything in the original script. The flick was made a tad less violent because of the Sept. 11 attacks, according to the brawny actor. A huge plane crash was cut from the film, the actor told a special edition of Maxim magazine in an issue that comes out today. That was rewritten because one, it was too close to 9/11 and two, it was too expensive. Its not the first time the terrorist attacks had an impact on one of Schwarzeneggers films. Collateral Damage, about a firefighter seeking revenge for a terrorist act, was delayed for a year due to fears that Americans might not want to see such a film shortly after 9/11. Warner Bros., which is distributing Terminator 3, had no comment at press time. Love The Scoop? Try The Juice! Monday through Friday in MSNBC Living
Notes from all over
Sometimes, dating the bosss daughter comes in handy. Tobey Maguire recently admitted that inappropriate behavior almost led to his getting axed from the Spider-Man sequel. That behavior isnt as salacious as it may sound; apparently, he didnt tell them about back problems that interfered with the shooting. But Maguire is dating Jennifer Meyer, daughter of Universal chief Ron Meyer, who went to bat for Tobey. Maguire got the role in the sequel. . . . You just cant keep Bill Bennett away from the casinos. Last week, the gambling moral crusader, who reportedly lost some $8 million at slot machines and video poker machines, spoke to a Rotarian group at Oneida Bingo and Casino in Green Bay, Wis., according to the Las Vegas Sun, which notes that the casino spokesman refused to say whether Bennett participated in gaming activities. . . .
Bummer for Britney Spears. Not long ago, the belly-baring crooner got a tattoo that she thought meant mysterious in Japanese, according to the London Sunday Mirror. Her friend, Crossroads co-star Taryn Manning got the same one. I was getting changed recently in Japan and a woman laughed when she saw my tattoo. She told me it means strange, which is not cool, Manning told the Mirror. [Britney] was absolutely devastated when I told her.
Figures.
This was posted earlier, but I'll repeat my comment:
Notice how the alleged "journalist" portrays this - as somebody attacking Mickey Mouse.
To my knowledge, no one has called for any attacks on this cartoon character.
But the idiot "journalist' chooses to frame it like that.
And I'll bet that not once were any of Bill Clinton's supporters ever referred to as "Billies", or anything like it.
No, there's no bias in the media, none at all.
Mickey Mouse was a "funny" little cartoon character (created by Ub Iwerks) in the 1920s-1950s. After that, he wasn't as active except in advertising. Nowadays, he is the figurehead of an evil empire.
