Notice the RED carpet

Indeed. Our real president went straight to the enlisted men to thank them first.

Notice the RED carpet

As somebody else on a different thread quoted Dennis Miller as saying recently, the only thing that is wrong with calling Clinton a scumbag is that reflects negatively on bags that are full of scum.

My goodness. How nice it is to have a decent person as our president again! I can hardly get over it.

I'm not the female fashion expert that my wife or daughter is, but those are two horrible outfits on Shrillary and Chelsea. Talk about fashion emergency!

It's a tossup as to whether the color or the cut of Shrillary's pantsuit is worse. Chelsea looks pregnant or in dire need of some ab crunches.

The democrats make two "points". (1) Delay in the ship's arrival; and (2) Cost. Some suggestions. Do a study of the delays caused by the activities of the Clintons. Any such delays would have been political in nature as Clinton was travelling as president (e.g., a state visit to Japan) and/or with his family. In none of these instances did he travel as Commander-in-Chief. Compare the Clinton delays to the "one day" delay (alleged) of the appearance of President Bush on the U.S.S. Lincoln. Also, remember that President Bush was board the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln as Commander-in-Chief during time of war to greet returning military personnel and to build morale in the ranks (not only on the U.S.S. Lincoln, but through out the military). As to cost: do a study of the cost of all the Clinton trips involving the military (including flights on military aircraft and the use of such craft to ferry luggage, and various hangers-on, etc.) Do a similar study of the cost of President Bush's flight, etc., to the U.S.S. Lincoln. Then the RNC can offer to pay the equivalent of the cost of President Bush's trip into the U.S. Treasury; provided, of course, the DNC makes a similar payment based on the Clinton costs.

"Exactly why did John Glenn need to go into space a few years ago?"

Lemme guess; To put a lock on the Guiness World Record for oldest astronaut?

I really didn't mind that JG went, but there surely were plenty of qualified astronauts that could have gone without having to worry about the odds of fragile health that come with a senior citizen.

IMO, which is not humble, the media got their share of feel-good story out of JG spacing out in his 70's, which sold air time, newspapers, etc., so maybe they could have contributed a cut of that revenue to NASA to cover the extra expense incurred by putting a senior in space with a crew.

And speaking of the Dems rant about the Prez doing all this to bolster his re-election campaign, isn't that what they are doing, and spending tax dollars to churn the news machine with their "investigations" into the costs?

Seems we just have to have these pains around to remind us of the existence of good and evil.

Someone, think it was Howlin, a couple of days ago posted a list of the visits of all presidents to various naval craft.

Clinton went every 2 years, 4 visits in all, though he never tailhooked of course.

Not to mention the other visits he made to places like Ramstein, Kosovo, etc. Plenty of photo ops all around for him.

I didn't ever hear a peep of complaint from anyone then.

CLINTON AND FAMILY ARRIVE ABOARD THE USS KENNEDY

President Bill Clinton is piped aboard as he goes through the sideboys on the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Independence (CV 62) at her homeport of Yokosuka, Japan, on Wednesday, April 17, 1996. The President took time out from his state visit to Japan to meet with the crew of the carrier and to thank them for their role in representing U.S. interests during their deployment off the coast of Taiwan. DoD photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Charles D. Popik, U.S. Navy.

The President wearing (gasp!) a flight bomber jacket.

The ship decorated in full regalia for the coming photo-op

Hillary dons a hat in "honor" of those aboard the ship.

The President and his wife discuss the pros and cons of her ruining her "do" by donning the hat.

Archie Clemins (left) on board the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Independence (CV 62) at her homeport of Yokosuka, Japan, on Wednesday, April 17, 1996. Delay in the ship's arrival? Does this even compare with the famous Clinton haircut delay?

The point is, however, that the President is the Commander in Chief.

Whether I like him or not (I didn't), Clinton had the RESPONSIBILITY to visit the troops. And if some general or admiral can cause delays, then the CIC certainly can.

I don't care if there was NO DELAY.

He's the Cdr in Chief!

Is it just me, or does anyone else notice the pictures of GW with service people have "happy to be with the President" looks on their faces, and the pics of Slick with troops have long mugs?

Our service men and women are not trained actors posing this difference.

I didn't mind what John Glenn did either. He earned the right to be shot into space. I also didn't mind Clinton (or Bush)landing on an aircraft carrier because that's what presidents do. I do get sick of the hypocritical one-upsmanship that both parties play in these situations. We've turned into a society that argues over semantics instead of issues. I guess its easier than requiring people to think.

Clinton got in enough trouble just sitting in his chair in the Oval Office

Word is that Hillary rang him during one of those intimate moments to ask what he was doing, and he replied, "Nuttin, honey"...

All the crew was warned that they were not to talk with him (Clinton) nor ask him any questions.

I watched W's arrival. Following the greeting with the top brass, he spent at least 20 minutes letting everyone on duty on the flight deck gather around and have their picture taken. One person who had a camera, but was either shy or too respectful of the President to ask for a picture, stood quietly a couple of feet from him until President Bush shouted out "You wanta take a picture?" at him. It went on and on for what seemed like an eternity and W had a grin from ear-to-ear. How the troops love him!!

There was no delay. The ship was ahead of schedule and would have slowed down anyway. The date and time of arrival had been announced in advance so family and friends could schedule their trip to San Diego. Coming in 12-15 hours early would have spoiled the homecoming.
