TUPELO — The Tupelo school district wants more minority teachers, and it has formed a minority recruitment committee.

"It's important to us to recruit top-quality teachers," Assistant Superintendent Jimmy Williams said. "We have a lot of minority students. It's important to have minority teachers to be positive role models for the students."

Some day ...maybe...top "quality" will be defined by the "content of a man's character" rather than "the color of his skin".....

If MS public schools are 53 percent black, it makes me wonder how Haley Barbour can be elected governor without getting some black support. And nearly all blacks are voting the straight Democrat ticket.

Tupelo for years had one of the top-ranked public school systems in the nation—then the liberals moved in and it's been downhill since.

53% may be minorities, but they never go to class. lived in Vicksburg (about an hour from Jackson where this newspaper is published) all my life. 53% of the students in Mississippi are not black. I can promise you that.

Mississippi's population is approximately 37% African-American. That is the highest such percentage in the country. The 53% figure refers to public schools only.

If I remember correctly, the average teacher salary was at 38k a year or two ago. It was a little below the regional average.

Also, a few years ago, Tupelo had a nationally recognized school system. My guess is that they still have pretty good schools in Tupelo. Recruitment of minority teachers is par for the course at all levels of education and has been for many years.

Follow-up: No, it shows no signs whatsoever of stopping. If we're to be honest, we must recognize the dire straits this country is in and the improbability of reversal. Even now, with the GOP in control of the White House and the legislative branch, do you see any sign of reversal of idiocy? I don't. Even when the "good guys" are in power, the best we can hope for is a slight slowing of the growth of political correctness and all the horror that goes along with it. But it's still growing!

We can continue to fight, but the enemy is too entrenched. They control the education system from elementary through college. Gosh knows they control the media, the platform from which they continue to brainwash the masses. As bad as things are now, think what it's gonna be like in twenty years when the next generation is in charge.

I'm not a pessimist, but I am a realist, and this is a country that elected Bill Clinton not once, but twice. What else is there to say?
