Don't they think some people in Ontario caught SARS on the GO Train out of Toronto? I wonder how easy it is for the disease to spread on Metro North out of New Rochelle or on the NYC subway.

New Rochelle student may have SARS. Sounds as if she's recovering nicely. But we knew young people do well with this disease. The problem is who she may have passed it on to.

sucked down the bug while chowing down on airline almonds..... Hey, what airlines serves almonds? All I ever get is pretzles.

This scares me. Three people from my office are going to Toronto to a convention in June. I have a daughter with asthma and colds have been dangerous for her in the past. I'm concerned that I could take this home to her.

Notice how they spin, minimizing any danger all the way through the article...
"These experts have told us the risk of contagion is small"
"At this time, there is no cause for alarm"
"it is important to keep the low risk nature of this situation firmly in mind."
"Students and staff exposed to the student during school hours should not be at risk of being infected."
Probably missed some.
Good luck to your friend.

I would think they'd close the school!

Someone was trying to send Antrax into Canada too. My solution.....STAY THE HELL OUT OF CANADA (TRAITORLAND) ANYWAY.

Hmm, I'm getting a little worried. I go to the school!

I heard over 5,000 are now dead from this little bug. No, that's the number that have caught it and been reported to the WHO. It's killed less than 350 so far.

"Remeber things like incubation periods could make otherwise healthy appearing people carriers of the virus."Yes, and sadly, there was a post on FR recently describing how people in China were "escaping" the quarantines--and, no doubt, spreading the infection. Quarantine is not fun, if it is done right--but often it saves lives.

I can certainly understand why you would be a little worried. Have your parents or any of your friends parents received a call from the school?

I live near the High School. My kid plays on the playground near the HS. If one of us catches SARS as a result of the school being kept open, I will defintely sue the school and city of New Rochelle.
You might think that's silly, but I have asthma and typically people with such complications have a higher DEATH rate, so it's a big deal to me.
Tests such as the AP and SAT are not more important than keeping the residents alive. Obviously the school administration thinks otherwise. I would hope that if anybody catches SARS, that this administration would be among the first to get it.

No calls from school... it's a school of nearly 4,000 so I don't expect a call, haha. The site says letters will go home tomorrow. Before this case was reported everyone in the county received a SARS update letter from the Dept. of Health outlining what SARS is, etc.

I hate public transportation, and now it seems even more dangerous than ever......

I first found out about this when a friend sent me a link to that article. I'm assuming this news broke after school today, because their was no news of it during school that I was aware of.
