Western anti-war protester confront US marines in Baghdad by Andrew Wed, Apr 9 2003, 1:49pm I'm watching BBC News24 here which is transmitting live from the square outside the Palestine hotel. An Iraqi crowd are trying to pull down a huge statue of Saddam. Meanwhile a western anti-war protester (british?) has actually confronted the marines there. After an argument with a marine he was pulled back into a Humvee by other men from his units.

The lefties think that children should be imprisoned by the State, and not set free as were the kids in Basra. The last thing the left wants is for children to be raised by their own parents.

I believe the Marine was criticising the protester and pointing out that, by his very presence, the protester was emphsizing what a shitty job he had done as a human shield. At the same time, the Marine was pointing out, by his very presence in downtown Baghdad, what a splendid job he and his unit had done. The dispute came from the point that the Marine made when he chambered a round and emphasized how easy it would be for him to help the human shield accomplish HIS mission.

Wouldn't it be fun to see Iraqi's beating up these protestors as though they were part of the old regeime? In eessence they would be pro saddam insane. Too bad the marines can't just shoot them and put them out of their misery.

Here's a further update from the guy:
The protester was described as a young British women in a black T-shirt shouting 'cowards, cowards' at the marine who was swearing back at her.
In terms of analysis its interesting that this exchange was happening in the middle of a crowd of Iraqi tearing down the Saddam statue. Some of them spoke English as a couple gave phone interviews
around this time.

The sign said, and I an NOT making this up:
Go Home
Human Shields
You U.S. Wankers
When I saw the two Iraqi guys with the sign, my spinal reflex was to just seen
the "Go Home" and "US"...and thought, "uh-oh", the Iraqis are p-ssed at us already.
About 2 seconds later, I realized what the sign actually said.
Simply awesome. Maybe not the defiance of the single guy against the tank column
during Tiennamen (sp?) Square...but this will surely be big on the "Gulf War II"
in review DVD!
Now I'm saying "Hey Hollywood -- Wank This!"

I was watching NTV (German news channel) when this happened. To show you how twisted the media is around here: the commentator elaborated on the "human shield" incident (there was also a very excited woman) by saying that this showed well that not all Irakis by far agreed with the intervention (dont understand why he thought they were Irakis). When the camera showed the two Irakis with the sign "US human shields go home", there was an embarrassed silence. Apparently they still dont realize yet that their worst nightmares are being shown live on every TV screen around the world (or maybe they realize it too well). Similar story for French TV. Cheers.

The US Marine COULD have yelled, hey Iraqis, this guy wants Saddam back and pointed and the unwashed LW fruitloop.
But Marines have too much class and poise.
