Western anti-war protester confront US marines in Baghdad by Andrew Wed, Apr 9 2003, 1:49pm I'm watching BBC News24 here which is transmitting live from the square outside the Palestine hotel. An Iraqi crowd are trying to pull down a huge statue of Saddam. Meanwhile a western anti-war protester (british?) has actually confronted the marines there. After an argument with a marine he was pulled back into a Humvee by other men from his units.

The lefties think that children should be imprisoned by the State, and not set free as were the kids in Basra. The last thing the left wants is for children to be raised by their own parents.

I believe the Marine was criticising the protester and pointing out that, by his very presence, the protester was emphsizing what a shitty job he had done as a human shield. At the same time, the Marine was pointing out, by his very presence in downtown Baghdad, what a splendid job he and his unit had done. The dispute came from the point that the Marine made when he chambered a round and emphasized how easy it would be for him to help the human shield accomplish HIS mission.

Wouldn't it be fun to see Iraqi's beating up these protestors as though they were part of the old regeime? In eessence they would be pro saddam insane. Too bad the marines can't just shoot them and put them out of their misery.

Here's a further update from the guy:

The protester was described as a young British women in a black T-shirt shouting 'cowards, cowards' at the marine who was swearing back at her.

In terms of analysis its interesting that this exchange was happening in the middle of a crowd of Iraqi tearing down the Saddam statue. Some of them spoke English as a couple gave phone interviews
around this time.

Go Home

When I saw the two Iraqi guys with the sign, my spinal reflex was to just seen
the "Go Home" and "US"...and thought, "uh-oh", the Iraqis are p-ssed at us already.

About 2 seconds later, I realized what the sign actually said.

Simply awesome. Maybe not the defiance of the single guy against the tank column
during Tiennamen (sp?) Square...but this will surely be big on the "Gulf War II"
in review DVD!

Now I'm saying "Hey Hollywood -- Wank This!"

Good to see the Iraqi people recognize the "shields" for what they are. I saw it and it made my morning.

I was watching NTV (German news channel) when this happened. To show you how twisted the media is around here: the commentator elaborated on the "human shield" incident (there was also a very excited woman) by saying that this showed well that not all Irakis by far agreed with the intervention (dont understand why he thought they were Irakis). When the camera showed the two Irakis with the sign "US human shields go home", there was an embarrassed silence. Apparently they still dont realize yet that their worst nightmares are being shown live on every TV screen around the world (or maybe they realize it too well). Similar story for French TV. Cheers.

That's an awesome picture! In fact, have a color printer here...so I printed it nice and big, with a caption "Memo to liberal Western ‘peace’-niks"...and left it lying out for one of my screaming, obnoxious, Bush-hating leftist coworkers to find.

Am I naughty? ;)

The US Marine COULD have yelled, hey Iraqis, this guy wants Saddam back and pointed and the unwashed LW fruitloop.

But Marines have too much class and poise.

This sign was reported stolen from the human shield wankers and appropriatly added to for the march around the square.

Got to love the ingenuity and resourcefullness of these guys.

I'm sure the marine was secretly thinking how much he would like to introduce this "human shield wanker" to the butt of his weapon, as the "Wanker" isn't worth wasting a round.

I LOVE this sign. Wonder how DU is explaining this one away? SO far this morning they've invoked "US guns at the heads of the Iraqis" and Stockholm Syndrome... Liberation jubilation and DU melt down all in one day. I can't take it! It's too much wonderful at one time :) LOL

Of course, the goals of the socialists have always been slavery, torture and death -- from Adolf Hitler to Mario Cuomo to Richard Daley to Tom Daschle - in their hearts they're all the same.

I think I saw this woman on FOX news. She was obviously screaming and being quite obnoxious
while about 5 marines stood around deliberately ignoring her. I kind of wondered what was going on
but it was only a long range image from a far away camera so you could not hear the words. (Just as
well)

I think she realized that Saddam is no longer paying for her trip there. Also her borrowed fifteen minutes of fame will never happen now as she's more irrelevant than she was before. The media doesn't want or need to talk to the shields now that their part in the war is completely over.

Look at the size of those guys in your picture. Underfed, starving Iraqis'? I've been looking for the starving Iraqis' since this war began, most of the women are rather portly, and a lot of the men look like these two. Just wondering.

Try again.

Watch CBC station on cable when civilians had to start stripping before they could surrender.

The ribs and hips were poking out and they looked like they escaped from concentration camps. It was gross.

You are both correct. I DO recall seeing these people, and their obvious need for food and water. I've seen so many images that they seem to overshadow what I witnessed only days before, in some cases, hours. Please don't think that I was being totally insensitive to those who are in serious need, I think I was asking myself aloud (by posting) why these guys were in such good shape. It makes me wonder if they might have changed into civilian clothes after ditching a uniform or something, and holding such a sign in order to escape scrutiny. In other words, I was wondering if the many Iraqis' that DO appear to be well fed were in the regimes' "good graces" and are now playing a grand game of CYA. Your sobering reminder of those who truly suffer re-enforces these suspicions. I think I'd better lay off the news for a while. It's making me crazy.
