I guess search and rescue dogs shouldn't be used either.

They are only worried about the "negative Training Methods" because they know how they "trained" thier kids.
The dolphins do not know they are in harms way, because they aren't in harms way....I am so fed up with PETA, I am so tempted to do something when I drive by thier headquarters here in Norfolk.

I wonder what the dolphin-mishap rate is, anyhow. I would surmise it is well nigh zero, because the dolphins are trained never to touch what they find. I never heard of a Purple Heart being issued to a dolphin :-)

It remains unestablished whether cetaceans bear the responsibility of moral choice. Therefore, these people are screaming ninnies.

"............Animal 'Rights' Activists Say"Ah yes, there's the whole problem right there. Who cares WHAT animal rights activists say? I know "Flipper" doesn't.

I drafted a chicken for dinner last night... I had Chinese take-out. Probably cat.....

Can dolphins even set off a mine? Doesnt it take a certain amount of pressure that only a large ship can create?

If Saddam was shown to be killing puppies or cats the world would have signed on.

Wait until they find out that Morocco has offered monkey land-mine locators.

Cat was sometimes the suspicion of the mystery meat in Saudi souks, tho' camel carrion always had a higher probability. I suspect you had "puppy-on-a-stick. They're small, cuddly and tasty if prepared correctly, too, y'know.

My Labrador Retriever did not volunteer to leave her mom and sibs. But she seems to have fallen in love with me and my better half. We drafted a cow for dinner last night. The lab drafted a bowl of Purina Pro Plan and a very unwilling bowl of water. I think we'll draft a chicken tonight or maybe a pizza.

Yes and I am appalled. Monkeys are cute and very entertaining. Let's send lawyers they don't have any endearing traits and we have many to spare.

Personally, I have an issue with animals being trained to kill humans by delivering bombs, etc. It seems sort of like giving bombs to kids and telling them to go blow people up.
Killing shouldn't be done lightly, or unconsciously, which is how animals and kids would do it since they don't know what's going on and can't give a valid informed consent.
However, in this case and in the case of rescue dogs the animals are saving people's lives, not taking them. There's no moral quandary there.
The only issue is the safety of the critter, and any rescue dog handler can tell you that the safety of their dog is paramount. From what I've read these dolphin handlers are doing their utmost to keep their Flippers safe - they don't mark the mine itself, just set a flag near it.
So PETA needs to shut up.

The left uses human shields. The right uses fish shields and big friggin' bombs!
