On top of making the Blixie Chicks look like the traitorous twits they are, it makes Simon Renshaw look like a paranoid conspiracy theorist and an inept manager.

"Chicks' manager Simon Renshaw suggested, in an e-mail that the Chicks' label Sony Music sent to country radio stations, that the protest against the Chicks was orchestrated by the Free Republic, a right-wing Web site."
A plethora of like-minded posts at FR only means that people who read FR are all on board about something. Liberals Do Not Get It. Typical response: blame an entity and hope you can shut it down or discredit it.. as opposed to, say, a sincere apology or something along those lines.
The article suggests that Ms. Maines filed for divorce from the country music audience. She did more than that -- she committed adultery first.

If memory serves Chet Flippo was, and still may be an influential columnist for Rolling Stone Magazine. Im sure he is probably very liberal, and a commentary like this just might mean The Chicks are not going to receive much support from the music establishment. Not because they disagree with her, but because this has to be one of the most stupid PR blunders in recent memory.

shut up and sing.
I have a habit, like now, of prefacing what I am going to say
by providing justification or background, as needs dictate.
I guess my habit got to my boss in his office one afternoorn,
because he interrupted my intro and said, "Shut up and talk."
I looked at him like he was insane and we both had a good laugh.

Surely this guy doesn't read us... right?
Chicks' manager Simon Renshaw suggested, in an e-mail that the Chicks' label Sony Music sent to country radio stations, that the protest against the Chicks was orchestrated by the Free Republic, a right-wing Web site. The Free Republic certainly had -- and still has -- its share of anti-Chicks postings.

When I went to Walmart tonight, I was looking for the Alan Jackson CD and I glanced around to see how the DCs were selling. For one thing, there were NONE missing. The rows were full. Another thing, someone had gone and turned them ALL upside down. Every single one was upside down! LOL Took me a minute to find them because their titles were upside down!

The funny thing is that the liberal rock-music audience looks down upon country music.
At the Grammys the big winner was Norah Jones (or whoever she is), someone who plays jazz-sounding pop music.
Jazz is ok. Blues is ok. Reggae is probably ok. Rock is ok.
But country is beneath them.
The only kind of country that the rock-music crowd can tolerate is the "country rock" stuff like the Eagles. The band that does "Hotel California" is as close to country that they'll go. Because, well, it's not really country, it's rock.
It's impossible for a rock-music singer to sing a real country song without him affecting a "dumb hillbilly" type of voice. Seriously, try it. Ask a lead singer in a rock band to sing something like "Your Cheatin' Heart" or whatever he knows. It will come out something like "Yer Chee - tun hort... wull make yew weep." They just can't take it seriously.
Good luck to the Chicks in getting this crowd to accept their down-home type music with their three chords, fiddles, steel guitars, and banjos.
By the way, I saw the Chicks live while they were still working on promoting their first hit. It was one of the most enjoyable shows I've ever been to.

Oh. I thought this was a Dylan thread:
Well, perhaps Mud can do a "Lay, Lady, Lay" parody.

Since when is an organized online meeting place motivating Americans to stand up for whats right a bad thing?
Freedom of speech only applies from the govt to a person or group. Person to person limit of free speech, from my understanding, has nothing to do with constitutionality. An example is Sony probably is now putting in their contracts for artists to shut their mouths while on tour and wait until they are home, not touring on the labels dime.
Me telling my radio station to stop playing a band is America... A DoJ telling a radio station to stop playing them, there we have a problem.

I think their country music careers are already dead, we're just waiting for the rot. They will/have become the symbol of what not to do as a country artist and this lesson will be looked back upon for years to come by current and especially future country artists. The chicks only hope is to focus entirely on the contemporary sector of their audience. And, hey, good luck with that girls (NOT).

That tells me that none of them -- Chicks, label, PR, management -- knows anything about the country music audience. OK, so Maines was an idiot - that's not unusual. Not a large number of musicians know anything much in depth but music - the same is true of actors. What is much worse than that is that her management does not appear to understand their market, and that is simply unprofessional.
To: hispanarepublicana
Go Chet! I suspect these girls were not liked in Nashville even before this scandal. Maines is such a damn flake. and www.nataliemaines.com is pathetic in every way. She is using a human shield (her baby) to avoid the righteous wrath of country music fans. She doesn't even allow for a place to comment, she knows how that would go--badly.
This thing really has legs. She will wear the anti-american tag forever, like Fonda. The stain has even extended to Charlie Robison, Blixie Chick Emily's husband, he is a judge on Nashville Star (an american idol C&W version) and was booed by the live audience when they introduced him last Saturday night.
Maines hurt the whole band with her big dumb mouth--talk about clutching bargin bin out of the jaws of platinum records as far as the eye can see.
