HOLLYWOOD; FREE SPEECH ONLY GOES ONE WAY MARK A SITY 2/9/03
I was quite amused to read George cLooney's caustic remarks toward criticism of his most recent movie, which seems to have been a flop. Someone told him that the movie was "boring". On one level this could be viewed as constructive criticism, explaining why this movie flopped. However, this is not how Mr. Looney saw the remark. His response was, "You crack me up, man. You just wanted to get up and be a rat, you know that? You just wanted to get up and say something rotten. What a jerk! I mean honestly, you know, what a (expletive) thing to say!"
Yet, it is perfectly honorable, in Mr. Looney's view to attack President Bush as a war monger and equate him to the mob. (For the full text, go here: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/52957p-49641c.html ).
However, a few years ago, Hollywood was adamant in their support of a Democrat president, and look out if someone said anything critical of Clinton! The wrath of Hollywood will decend!
I have to wonder, did Mr. Looney's movie flop as a result of Conservatives staying home? I hope so! I hope we are seeing the beginnings of a trend here.

I also wonder about these boxes for TV ratings; I wonder how many conservative households have them. It seems to me that if they did a true cross-section of the population most of the shows on TV would not be there!

And which way is that? Hopefully straight to the dictionary to learn how to spell "speech" correctly.

How *dare* he try to stifle dissenting opinions ! *shock* How could a limo lib like this consider himself above us 'regular people' ? Shocked, I tell ya, shocked! It's just so rare in the entertainment/news pimindustry today. < / sarcasm off >
On a serious note, if someone on live TV tells baba steisand she's a suck, she'de have a hissy fit the size of her ego.

I've had it with these one dimensional actors and actresses whose bigest life crisis was either a bad hair day or who star in a sucky movie.
The current batch, with a few older exeptions, are a weak crop compared to the generation before: Gary Grant, Bogart, John Wayne. Seeing Matt Damon do the remake of the Bourne Identity was painful, Clooney doing Ocean's 11 made the original look like a masterpiece which it wasn't.
Tom Cruise is OK but he has the depth of a wafer. Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz are easy on the eyes but please don't try to sound like you know what you're toking about outside of acting.

My immediate thought was of the awful joke he made about Charlton Heston and yet he has the gall to berate the reporter for just wanting to be a rat? Nasty AND hypocritical.

It amazes me about Hollywood. If I was making $20 million a picture, the last thing I would do is jump into political causes that I know nothing about.
It's the 75th anniversary of the Oscars, I hope people offended by Hollywood's asinine comments turn their TV sets off that day.

she'de have a hissy fit the size of her ego. Two things that size on this planet? Is there enough room?

Maybe the reporter called "Solaris" boring because it WAS boring. And I mean "you'll-need-a-nailgun-to-hold-your-eyelids-open" boring. But by all means, George, continue committing career suicide in public. Berate a film critic in front of a whole roomful of film critics. It will just help end your movie career that much sooner, remove your cocked head and failed attempts to look cute and super-cool from the screen, and save a lot of long-suffering moviegoers a lot of money, time and agony.

Anybody know where we can write to Mr. Clowney to let him know just how awful his movies are?

I haven't seen it, nor do I care to see it. But one would think that after a movie flops at the box office that the actors and director might want to look into why it flopped.
I guess they just think us "little people" were too stupid to appreciate it. Just like we are too stupid to listen to their anti-war foolishness.

"Hollywood isn't in good mental health right now."
Hollyweird hasn't been in good mental health for at least 30 years! I have been watching these Hollywood flakes make asses of themselves politically for at least that long. They always seem to have the same violently infantile intolerance for those with whom they disagree. Witness George Clowny's remarks about Heston and similar ones made in the past by that complete jackass Alec Ballchin, Arsenio Hall, Julia Roberts and a whole host of others. I am glad more people seem to be noticing this lately and are seeing these neurotics for what they are. You have to be somewhat neurotic to be good at the acting profession, but these are the last people whose opinion should be trusted on any other matter.

You're right - there was a thread here recently about Hollywood movies. It basically said that if Hollywood was paying attention, those movies with the most amount of explicit sex, violence, and bad language were running way behind those movies with the most morality, good family values, honesty, integrity, etc. Good family movies are making the real money; if Hollywood is listening.

I'm simply amazed at these people with so little current information have so much knowledge. They have alot of big name company, too, all with the "right" answers but no qualifications that would back up ther opinions. Ego trippers, hah!

That is exactly the problem, they aren't listening; they are too busy running their mouths about things they know nothing about. They don't think we need guns in our homes to defend ourselves because they don't; they live in gated communities with armed security guards. They tell us that the people we elected are mean or stupid, etc (if they are Republicans), but will tolerate no criticizm of powerful Democrats. They show they "care" about the homeless by kicking them off their somewhat warm spots on cold nights so they can sleep there. They are too wrapped up in themselves to listen to the people who pay to see their movies.
