WASHINGTON -- At least 105 foreign nationals suspected of terrorist involvement who may "pose a threat to national security" received visas granting them access to the United States earlier this year because of lapses in a new background check system ordered by President Bush, according to government officials and documents.

Investigators for the General Accounting Office, who first uncovered the breaches, are trying to determine how many of the 105 entered the United States and how many might be at large here still, according to congressional officials familiar with the ongoing probe.

Somebody needs to tell the FBI to get off it's butt, and start taking these threats more seriously.......

No wait......somebody did that last week......nevermind. (/sarcasm)

Neither the FBI or the CIA--both of whom booted this one & endangered our safety--are going to be in the new Homeland Security department. It's the ultimate responsibility (if you believe in "The Buck Stops Here") of Robert Mueller and George Tenet, respectively.

The federal government's main job function is to protect us. Without this prtection they become completely useless. Everything else can be done on a state level, so if they are not protecting us why are they still in place? They need to get moving with this homeland security before they become extinct.

Islam against the world. Islam against the Bible. Islam against the U.S. Constitution. Islam against all freedoms, logic, personal responsibility, love of truth. Darkness against the Light. Epic battle brewing.

Since the article does not mention nationalities, guess we can assume a good chunk of them were Saudis.

Could we not have just a one year moratorium on immigration, legal and illegal? Given the National Emergency in which we find ourselves, how cruel would it be to take a year to enforce our borders, retrain/reorient the INS and debate sane immigration quotas and policies? And frankly, at the risk of sounding like a Know Nothing Nativist, I'm not buying the dodge that the Republicans can't afford to get tough on immigration for fear of losing the "Hispanic" vote. They may have already lost the "Chicano" vote in states like Kalifornia, but it's insulting to Latinos across the country to accept as an article of faith that they can't understand the harm that uncontrolled (legal and illegal) immigration can do in the wake of 9/11. The real reason the GOP won't do anything about illegal immigration is American Business' (read: Fortune 500, Chamber of Commerce, Big and Small Business owners) addiction to cheap Mexican and Latin American (illegal immigrant) labor. Lest anyone think I'm leaving the DNC out of the equation, everyone knows that the 'Rats (even their Big Labor pals, who ought to be protecting American jobs) have whole-heartedly embraced illegal immigration.

I don't know about you people, but this kind of service is what makes me feel good about ditching the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and any other Constitutional amendments that get in the way of safety and national security. /end sarcasm
