Accidental Death

Web Producer: Dawn Murphy

Modified: 11/3/2002 5:38:37 PM

High Point, NC

13 year old Christopher Dixon disappeared from his High Point home Thursday, October 24.

Volunteer search crews found his body Saturday morning underneath an overpass where highway 68 meets the new 311 bypass.

High Point police believe Chris's death was accidental.

The family is trying to cope with the news and have not yet finalized memorial service arrangements. But your prayers are welcome.

Police say runaway and accidental death...the mother doesn't believe it, and neither does anyone else who knew Chris. Incompetency at it's best.

"Accidental?" This kid dragged trash cans back to his house - and was found dead a mile away?

What everyone in High Point should be asking is why their local police - which supposedly searched this area - didn't find this kid, but some out-of-staters found him in under three hours.

The kid died under an overpass by accident? Maybe he fell. Maybe, being a kid, he died of exposure instead of going to any nearby house for warmth.

But maybe it's no accident at all.

The coroner's report should be useful... so should an explanation as to why they missed him at that site earlier. The other question I have: was there are construction activity going on at that site in the past week? If so, that argues for him being brought to that site much later.

How can they even say this before the autopsy? The kid was happy and bright, and just went out to bring in the trash cans.

WTF is up with these cops? Sorry, but this makes me so damn angry. At least they could wait until the coronor nails down the cause of death.

NC Ping!

This seems pretty far-fetched to me.

Stupid, dumb cops!

I guess you have this all figured out. I'd like to hear your conclusion along with all of the facts that support it.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I am surprised. However, it isn't time-profitable to debate the issue. But I will make a disclaimer ... I don't think ALL cops are dumb and stupid. I love the police men and women who patrol my neighborhood.

BTW, thank you for your service to our country! And I mean that!

Make that searched the area at least 4 times. I will admit that the grass and weeds may have been high, but one would think that wouldn't impair the dogs too much. The team from Texas found him in about 2 hours Saturday. Maybe it was "luck" if you can call finding a body that.
