This dithering and equivocation regarding the real threat Saddam poses for America is like Clinton nostalgia; WJC would rather not deal with the difficult and dangerous issues, so he simply ignored them. He figured he could initiate some studies, waste time by ordering Gore to head some bogus commissions, and try to deflect attention away from the Middle East as the source of the terrorist threat, using the hyped up bogey man of right wing militias to get an added political boost out of bombings like OK City.
These "moderate fence sitters" who counsel Scowcroft like reticence, even temporary ones that will fall in line when faced with the reality of an imminent threat, all would rather go back to the Clinton era, when we just ignored national security threats like Bin Laden, North Korea, and China, and watched the Dow climb above 10,000. These folks have such short memories, one wonders why their employers let them take coffee breaks, as it might take a long time to retrain them. Saddam Hussein irrefutably has the blood of hundreds of innocent Americans, and hundreds of thousands Kuwaitis, Iraqis, Iranians, Kurds, and others on his hands... why does he have to be found holding the smoking gun of 9/11 to justify his elimination?
Could that same brain disease that has infected Scott Ritter now be the pathogen that is destroying common sense and clear vision in our leaders and pundits? Could it be "West Denial Virus"? Clinton suffered from this, along with his foolish supporters in the State Department. But the piper came a-calling anyway. And we all had to pay that piper for Clinton's 8 years of pathological idiocy. Is there any doubt in your mind that the piper will come calling again? I am not ready to bet my life on the vain hope that he won't
lol.
Excellent rant. Thank you.
