I fear that Sanchez may win the governorship and, even worse, that Kirk may win the Senator's seat.

Why, the SurveyUSA poll just released wasn't even close in any of the big races. They've got a better track record than these college polls or Mourning News polls(one of them had Kirk leading among self-identified conservatives 39% to 30%. Yeah right, and I'm the King of Spain.

The race doesn't start until Labor Day, and Cornyn is holding his fire. Perry is already running ads. If I were doing his ads, I'd add one with a list of all the high-profile endorsements he's received, and then for a punchline note that Sanchez is endorsed by the car dealers(with a shot of some slick greaseball in front of a lot of $500 rent-a-wrecks).

Austin is full of Sanchez and Kirk signs. There is nary a peep out of Perry or Cornyn. These two have taken the word "overconfidence" to a new high. One would almost think that the TX Democrat ticket is running unopposed this year, the way it sometimes did in the 1950s! And even Henry Bonilla in south TX has not yet begun a campaign though he faces a highly serious Democrat challenger in Henry Cuellar. If the Democrats win control of the House, they will most likely have to unseat Bonilla. And Bonilla is seemingly not in the least worried. It sounds like a case of incumbent's arrogance to me.But I have been saying for many months that the Democrats will score a national sweep in 2002, and alas I stand by that prediction.

You know, Mike, given...

" I fear that Sanchez may win the governorship and, even worse, that Kirk may win the Senator's seat."

Texas would be on track to look like what Kalifornia now looks like - politically.

Lord, what a nauseating thought!

Sometimes ONE vote on an issue will ruin a voter's support for a politician. You feel that Traficant's opposition to presidential impeachment was unforgiveable. I feel the same way about the majority of Americans who rallied against little Elian Gonzalez, among them OK Republican gubernatorial frontrunner Steve Largent. I am glad that I don't live in OK -- I would have to skip the governor's race this year. But if I lived in NH, I would vote for Senator Bob Smith in the GOP primary, despite polls that show him a sure loser. Smith was among the most steadfast support of little Elian in the whole Congress. Now NH will repay him by denying him renomination. Smith will soon be saying, "No good deed goes unpunished." And Fidel will get the last laugh. Shame on America.
