The Washington, D.C.-based National Education Association (NEA), the largest teachers' union and perhaps the most vocal critic of homeschooling, contends that home-education advocates are too dismissive of the socialization benefits provided by public schools.

Yes, I'm dismissive of teen pregnancies, drug use, rampant socialism, anti-Christian sentiment, and the homosexual agenda. If that's public school socialization, you can keep it! Kudos to Chick-A-Fil for their efforts!

I'm a homeschool mom with a son who works at Chick-Fil-A. My son is doing well there, as the article says homeschoolers do. What a great find! Thanks for pinging me!

The funny thing is that we had no idea that they like to hire homeschoolers when my son applied there. There is at least one other homeschooler who works there with him.

You're right! Their food is wonderful. I like their fries.

"Preach and teach", eh? How unbelievably condescending.

We've been homeschoolers for over 17 years; since LONG before it became fashionable. We've chosen to use curricula from Christian Liberty Academy the entire time. This twit paints a picture of some pinched-faced prude droning on in days-long sermons to their kids..........but nothing could be further from the truth. It's called a "Christian-based education", Mr. Packard. If the phraseology is unfamiliar, bone up........because most of your "target audience" ARE, in fact, Christians. The biggest difference? My kids' education (we typically homeschool from 1st through 8th grade, then they attend public high school, but we live in an area with pretty good, college-prep-oriented high schools) doesn't attempt to deny God, nor remove any references to Him in such courses as history or the sciences. CLA also provides transcripts, report cards, diplomas for those who use their curricula through to graduation, etc., so the vaunted "paper trail" is more than adequate (not to mention standardized testing, computerized grading / test scoring, etc.).

As for the "socialization" garbage, let me tell you that I could post a very long thread here on the so-called "value" of what that moron from the NEA refers to as socialization. Ninety-percent of it is just trash that my kids could do without..............believe me. Besides, as the parents of seven, "socialization" is the LEAST of our concerns.

Thanks for posting. My oldest daughter and son-in-law are exploring the possibility of opening a Chick-fil-A in the local mall. She was not home schooled, but can almost claim to have been. With sibblings that are home schooled, she knows the work ethic, as she has the same one. Both of them are wonderful Christians with the right attitude toward life. When they were married, he had a new house for her, already paid for. She got to design most of it, especially the kitchen as she is a wonderful cook.

What a nice article! I was homeschooled and I thank my parents regularly. I was doing truly advanced mathematics by sixteen, and will have a college degree by 20. I also had plenty of jobs through my teenage years, and never had to work in a fast-food restaurant. However, if I did I would be working for Chick-fil-a; their employees seem nicer than the average and you always get Sunday off.

There's one thing I really love about FR; being homeschooled is almost a badge of honor and you never have to explain yourself. It's no coincidence that most homeschoolers are conservative, and I think that's what's going to save us, in a few years.
