Katie Couric: Class Resentment, Anti-Intellectualism, and Anti-Elitism Is Driving Anti-Establishment Trump Voters
Real Clear Politics ^ | 04 15 2024 | Ian Schwartz

Katie Couric said resentfulness stemming from globalization is driving the anti-establishment Trump voter to the voting booth in an interview with Bill Maher on his podcast 'Club Random.'

"I think that is a huge problem that we have to address," Couric said. "Globalization and the transition from an industrial to a technological society. I don't know if you've ever been jealous of what someone else has or resentful. It is such a corroding and bitter, almost vile feeling. I think that when people who are really struggling see people who have everything and are on top of that looking down on them. It is just a recipe for such anger and resentment and grievance."

In their minds, Progressivism/Socialism/Communism = Intellectualism.

We do no have a “post-industrial” society no matter how much more “technology” we are using. Everything “technology” needs in terms of hardware is a product of industrial production, and a good part of the use of technology is in industrial production of everything else.

Correct! We outsource our production to other countries and then pat ourselves on the back for how “advanced” we are. Honestly, it’s the same thing with agriculture too.

They’re all dense and obtuse. I saw a bit of that in the military, from a number of Academy graduates.

I especially enjoyed O Club conversations with fighter pilots. One night, I was getting into it with a 1st LT, he was very critical of my unit, and I wasn’t putting up with it. A Major came over and scolded the pilot: “You need to show this Army LT a bit more respect. He’s worth a full point on Base Survivability during alerts.”

I was the Wing Commander’s unofficial advisor on NBC inputs, after correctly recommending the proper course of action when his AF “expert” overreacted. I was just in the right place at the right time. NBC Officer was one of my extra duties at my battery.

The three “intellectual” women that Miss Couric undoubtedly admires the most - Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama and Kamala Harris - all flunked the bar exam. Who you calling “stupid”, Rapidly Aging Perky One?

Exactly right. Where does all this tech come from? Industry of course, but sadly not nearly enough American industry. People who make things are very important to economic prosperity. You cannot solve every problem with an app.

We now live in an era coined by Ayn Rand as the Aristocracy of Pull. It’s thriving in the Deep State.

jim, look more closely at what z3n said:

The obnoxious part is that she doesn’t realize that “intellectualism” is an oxymoron. Most ‘intellectuals’ live in a bubble and other than a few academic fields in which they specialize, are just complete morons in the real world.

This needs to be highlighted; that intellectual does not mean intelligent.

(most certainly almost any FReeper's IQ eclipses Perky's here)

"Intellectuals" gave us 'Critical Theory', Marxism, Communism, Critical Race Theory - and all its attendant garbage, misery, and death.

So as z3n says, they're not only morons, they're miserable morons.

I resent corrupt demented demon rats moving into conservative states.
Otherwise, if you’ve earned your money honestly then enjoy it.

Of course, the left has NEVER used class resentment as a motivating factor. As for "anti-intellectualism," we aren't "anti-intellectual," we are anti-pompous assery and pseudo-intellectualism and politicized "science" and gender-fluid insanity.

If anyone fails the bar twice they should have to wait two years to take the test again... and if they fail that they should find a new profession.

True.
We’re tired of having our good paying jobs shipped overseas while the remaining blue collar jobs are undercut by cheap labor being imported by illegal aliens.
All the the “intellectuals” tell us we’re stupid/racists/selfish to raise our voices against this unelected invasion of America.
And all this same “class” tell us peons we need to use less electricity, petroleum and other resources while they have several house and jet across the world to their vacation homes.
So yeah, we are “resentful”

Katie Couric - the same liar who got caught deceptively editing videos.

Who would ever believe a thing she said?

She’s not entirely wrong. Arid wench

She's right about the contempt that people have for the people trying to globalize the world. But, she seems to be unaware that it's totally justified.
