New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) on Friday was dinged on social media after saying that the 4.8-magnitude earthquake that shook New York hit “west of Manhattan” rather than mentioning New Jersey.
“A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit west of Manhattan and has been felt throughout New York,” Hochul said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day,” she continued.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the quake was near Lebanon, N.J, a description reiterated by both the New York Mayor’s office and New York City 311.

They need to start worrying about the wrath of God instead. After what FJB and his administration are doing to Israel God is not amused!
Continuing proof that Deep State doesn’t hire the front office appearance types for brains.
So, in reality, she was mocked, not ribbed.
Is there anyone, at this juncture, who does not know that?
Governors (particularly the democrat variety) are always keen to consider the possibility of declaring a state of emergency so they can request some time at the federal teet. She was probably hoping they could blame some future water main break on the quake (”west of manhattan”) and ask for hundreds of millions. Just gotta set the table
No worries they checked, the illegals didnt shake enough to leave New York they are still there..and the hobos can go back to throwing people in front of moving trains
I worked in Manhattan for a LONG time.
I loved working there. Yea, there are actual communists and it is generally a lefty hootenany. However, there was such a rich tapestry of life and pockets of conservativism (the Churches are magnificent) that it all worked out. You also learned how to conduct business like a machine.
One of my favorite things I read bout NYC when I worked there, was in The Village Voice. It is (was?) a real leftist rag but they had some outstanding sections covering the arts - Nat Hentoff was notable -, and you could figure out where the national DNC was heading for the political screeds they published (the Voice’s nonsense became mainstream in a rolling 7 year pace).
The thing in question was a very over-the-top yet insightful advertisement to subscribe to the Voice. The copy basically said “Why should I subscribe to the Voice? It’s trash. It’s run by a bunch of pinkos who hate America end pontificate about ‘how much superior we are here on this TROPICAL LITTLE ISLAND OFF THE COAST OF AMERICA.”
That picture from the New Yorker is more accurate than you think.
I live in CT and my house was rocking back and forth for at least 20 seconds. It sounded like a train was passing by outside my window. I was sitting on the edge of my bed and it felt like I was in a rocking chair. It’s weird because my brother lives 6 miles from me and he didn’t feel anything. I thought my house was going to collapse on me. I never felt anything with that much power.
The Taiwanese are also dealing with the aftermath of an earthquake west of Manhattan.
Can we reroute our contentiousness with her to more weightier matters? This is what sux about thin-skin social media.
Too funny.
Anecdote time—for business I had to drive a young person from the Bronx up to northern CT to meet someone at Bradley Field.
I decided to have some fun with the guy.
I exited off the highway and took him on a tour of CT tobacco fields.
The guy was terrified—it never occurred to him that CT had agriculture.
Lol.
It is global warming!
They just can’t let go of the Twitter (now known as X) thing.
why terrified
The guy was worried I was kidnapping him and was going to dump him in a tobacco field somewhere.
He had never seen such a rural area.
Oh! Okay.
Well,,,,at least she was in the neighborhood.
