The only positive is that coy-dogs are supposed to be sterile like a mule. We have some coy-dogs in our area and the less cautious ones get shot pretty quick.

Now the red wolf-coyote mix is not sterile and has pretty much sentenced the red wolf to a future of captivity.

I have always thought that bounties are a wonderful idea.

Coy dogs (coyote mom) are not sterile, at all.

Nor are dog-coys (coyote dad). (Dog coys tend to be smaller, probably because the female dog that puts up with a coyote are smaller.)

I’ve dealt with generations of them on the ranch.

I guess I have been lied to again. Not the first time. The coy-dogs we have (Eastern NC) are larger than regular coyotes and look more like dogs, but have the coyote's coloring and are obviously wild.

OBTW, I learned to be distrustful about the experts when I was very young (in high school). For instance, where I used to hunt deer had rattle snakes. I was talking to a reptile guy from Duke University and he was insistent that rattle snakes did not live where I hunted. I told him that if he did not believe me, I could take him to the hunting camp and I would show him several rattlesnake skins we had mounted on the cabin wall. Besides, rattle snakes are the easiest to ID. He did not take me up on the offer.

In a similar instance, about 20 years ago, a highly regarded expert in Lyme's disease wrote a long article that Lyme's disease did not exist in eastern NC. Which was stupid. Lyme's disease has been in eastern NC since the early 1990s. In 1991 or 1992, Camp Lejeune had the highest incidences of Lyme disease in America (warm winter, so the ticks did not get thinned out, a dry spring so very few controlled burns were performed, and thousands of Marines wandering around the woods every day).

Just wait until the wolf packs that they are promoting get bigger.

I know a guy in East Tennessee who built a sub MOA Modern Sporting Rifle and would love to use it on a coyote or hog.

POSSIBLY rabid.

MOST coyotes are shy of people.

I live in N Nevada high desert.

We have coyotes all hours of the day.

ONLY reason to have a .22 up here is due to the coyotes bothering livestock.

WHERE are coyotes protected?

In virtually all urban areas it is forbidden to hunt coyotes or to trap them.

It may be possible to obtain difficult and highly regulated licenses to trap coyotes in extremely limited circumstances.

Thermal image rifle scope on a .22-250 rifle is how we take care of them out here on the farm in central Kansas. Telescope is darn expensive, but so are my calves.

I have a Ruger 10/22 that came stock set up like a AR with a pistol grip and a long threaded barrel in which I have a (very legal and tax stamped) suppressor. Bannana 30 round mag. Illuminated scope.

It sits in the truck just for coyotes. Get about one a month.

I don’t care if I wing it and don’t get a clean kill. It will eventually die.

Although I did wing one once and its front leg shriveled up. That guy hung around for two years (obviously pissed at me, looking for some way to get me) before I finally killed him.

Abandoning poorly trained GSD’s and GSD crosses out in the country is how it happened.

Yep. Including the wonderful loving pitt pet that absolutely shocked the parents when it rip their baby apart. They just couldn't believe it I tell you.

Oh well, it's nature.

They make some very nice handy 22 revolvers with potent rounds (federal Punch, Winchester Silver tip). Will stop any coyote/dog attack and so easy to shoot and carry. Perfect for strollers, hikers, joggers, etc.

The KelTec P17 and similar semi-autos such as the Taurus TX22 and Sig P322 are lightweight and easy to carry.

A KelTec P17 loaded with 16 rounds weighs only 14 ounces.

I had to get serious about it two years ago when a pack of the damn things came through here during calving season and outright killed a young calf and tore open the udders on his momma so badly I had to put her down. That’s some serious money out of my pocket. I kill ‘em every chance I can.

Acting as a pack tells me that you have coydogs (or coywolves) not a pure coyote. Actual coyotes will seldom work in proper groups larger than two (one male and one female).

It’s a real problem.

Pigs are my major issue, but idiots (er, I mean nice people from Dallas) now pay me to let them kill pigs, so they’re dwindling down to a nuisance. One killed some red Russian monster I kept seeing in frac pits. Looked like a rhino. Had to be 600lbs.

Like I said, not owned by idiots. People who think dogs do things without warning, would qualify.
