Three Attacks by Coyote(s) in Arlington, Texas in Five days

On Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Parkway Central Park in Arlington, Texas, a Coyote attacked a little girl, dragging her toward the woods. The girl’s father chased after the coyote and girl and recovered the girl. From khou.com:

“I have a little girl who just got attacked by a coyote,” the 911 caller said. “It’s a big coyote. It’s coming back. Oh Lord Jesus.”

The caller described that children were playing on a playground when the coyote “attacked the little girl on the playground and dragged her, like, in the woods and her daddy went chasing after her.”

“So kids are in the car now but the coyote is still on the playground,” the caller told 911.

The caller then described the girl’s bite wound, as dispatch worked to get an ambulance and officers to the scene.

Traps were set in the park, but the park was not closed. No signs were posted at the park to inform users of the danger.

On Monday, February 12, another child was bitten and taken to the hospital. More traps were set.

On Tuesday, February 13, a six-year-old boy was attacked, bitten, and dragged for some distance. From nbcdfw.com:

“All of a sudden, I heard a mom scream, ‘Oh my God! That dog just bit that kid!'” Estreitta de Kluetz recalled. “I immediately called 911, went over to the little boy, and the little boy was — his whole shirt was filled with blood and he was crying.”

She said the woman, who was holding a baby, herself, threw her shoe at what they soon realized was a coyote. Both ran to help the little boy, who was sitting next to the swings with his brother.

It was only after the third attack that the city closed the park or even posted warning signs.

Coyotes are pitbulls? Who’d a thunk it.

I think this is more of a "wild animals are wild" situation. I'm no fan of pit bulls, but it's hardly fair to hold them responsible for a coyote attack.

No Dumb A. coyotes are vicious dogs that evolved to kill and eat, the difference between them and pit bulls is man breed pitbulls to kill and not eat.

This sounds like something that was known to occur back when Mark Twain was a six year old.
Have these coyotes been deliberately imported to that area?

Shark Week is only a few months away.

Can “Shark-ote, the Movie” be far behind?

It’s early, usually I’m punnier.

Coyotes are usually cowards.

I would presume these are coy-dogs, a blend of (usually) German shepherd of some kind. They are much more aggressive, bigger, and gradually taking over.

All the nasty traits of coyotes with the size and fighting ability of a proper guard dog.

How did THAT get started?

I've been around a lot of Pit Bulls over the years. They were nice dogs in the hands of people who aren't idiots. Coyotes are wild predators doing what wild predators do.

Might as well add rotwielers, Dobermans and any other breed that has attacked humans in the past. I’ve seen mongrals do a nasty job on people. A friends Wiener dog bit her so viciously that that got rid of it.

Really? i dont hold pitbull owners responsible for a coyote attack. I never said that.

How many people have to be attacked and seriously maimed before pit bulls are finally acknowledged as the problem?

Pitbulls are worse than coyotes because coyotes dont have the strength or size of a pit bull.

And coyotes dont have the devils P.R. team telling people there are no bad coyotes, its their upbringing, not the breed.

I threw a show at a coyote once and he ran away,

I threw a shoe at a pit bull once, he ran away and 5 minutes later he came back with a different shoe attached to a fresh bloody leg.

The coyotes are breeding with wolves and are extremely vicious.

There’s a reason why man did his best to eliminate wolves.

Dallas/Fort Worth is on the edge of coyotes range when Europeans first noticed them.

Thanks, I just googled it up. Been going on for a long time between lots of different dog species, all of which have the same number of chromosomes etc. etc.

Jackal-dogs sound entertaining. :-)

The reason coyotes, wolves, and dogs are different is that PEOPLE maintained niche separation. The canids (actually all the same species by biological definition of the term) drifted apart in attributes because people maintained niche separation.

During the Pleistocene and still today among particular aboriginal tribes, people actually call in big cats to deal with canid predators, while maintaining smaller less aggressive "dogs" to warn them of approaching wolves and bears, then using them to distract and frustrate those larger predators.
