Mike Lee subjected to TSA pat-down days after calling to nix the agency: 'Maybe it's a coincidence'

Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah noted in a post on X that days after calling for the abolition of the Transportation Security Administration, he was subjected to a pat-down.

"Update: days after calling to abolish TSA, I got 'randomly selected' for the needlessly slow, thorough TSA screening & patdown. Maybe it's a coincidence. Or not. Impossible to know. That's part of the problem with having a federal agency in charge of airport security," Lee wrote in a Thursday post on X.

In a Monday post, Lee, who has served in the Senate since early 2011, called for nixing the TSA and suggested that airlines could assume the responsibility of ensuring the security of their flights.

"It's time to abolish the TSA. Airlines can and will secure their own planes if a federal agency doesn't do it for them. They'll do it better than TSA, without undermining the Constitution and with less groping—showing more respect for passengers," he wrote.

The agency was created in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks. "The Aviation and Transportation Security Act, passed by the 107th Congress and signed on November 19, 2001, established TSA," according to tsa.gov.

In response to Lee's post on Thursday, someone tweeted, "I had the major pat down last time I flew and I felt violated, even though it was a woman. It was really bad."

There are no coincidences with corrupt government.

A friend of mine who worked in my plant, retired and got a job with the TSA at the St. Pete - Clearwater airport in Florida. His opinion of the employees is not very flattering. Basically, he says they are all low IQ, liberal idiots.

Of COURSE it’s not a coincidence...

If you cut the enemy infinite “benefit of the doubt,” he’ll eat you alive in small bites.

Warriors don’t grant “benefit of the doubt.”

Non-warriors get killed.

Correct. That’s the kind of thing the Founders tried to warn us about. They knew that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The Administrative State has multiple methods of patting us down, every single day.

TSA has outlived its usefulness. They only go after Americans these days. They don’t fuss with illegal aliens and other foreigners. They might find a diaper full of crap they might have to change. They seem to think that it was Americans who destroyed the WTC. Until the dangerous foreigners started flooding into America, we never had to be searched and X-Rayed everywhere we went. Foreign crooks, thieves and murderers as well as the need for government jobs for minorities caused that BS to be “necessary”.

There is only one type of security to use - PROFILE! Look ‘em in the eye, question ‘em, ask them questions and if they fit the profile grill ‘em. I just went through Boston last month and I took off my sport coat and got yelled at. I wanted to put it in a gray tray. He asked me ‘why? YOU DON’T NEED TO TAKE YOUR COAT OFF!’ I have 2,000,000 frequent flier miles in my account and I have to deal with this big jerk. Sorry, every airport in America I have traveled in I have taken off my coat even with my TSA Precheck because I put my wallet and passport in it.

It is a coincidence. TSA isn’t smart enough or dumb enough to single out Lee. Frequent fliers that have Pre Check and Clear will be doing self check in and security with no agents.

Being rude to a politician can have dramatic consequences. We had auto inspections in Florida. The employees were universally rude, as if they all went to the same how-to-be-rude seminar. They were universally hated. One day the governor’s wife took their car in to have it inspected. They treated her like they treated everyone else. Two weeks later they were all fired, and we haven’t had inspections since.

What bothers me is that the government must have received thousands of complaints, and nothing was done. But be rude to someone who actually counts, well, that’s different. I’ve seen things like this play out a few times. Very annoying that we, the great unwashed masses, count for nothing.

Unlikely. The GOP keeps funding the expansion of government.

It’s a piece of the Bush Cheney WOT bonanza that put the DC swamp on steroids with a high pork diet producing bulked up feral swamp pigs.

I totally support the abolishment of this ridiculous agency.
On some bad advice, I actually applied and worked there for a few months before quitting in disgust.
I went in on the promise of being able to work with the K9 handlers. Total bait and switch.
Entirely staffed by shiftless angry entitlement queens and leftists... the only exceptional moment was when I got to work with the K9 department and spent an entire day working with two of the cutest labs.

Orwellian nightmare. And you don’t even need a highschool degree to work there. Just a GED. Disgusting.
