Massachusetts Senator’s ‘Paramilitary Bill’ Could Shut Down Wyoming Shooting Sports
Cowboy State Daily ^ | 2/9/24 | Mark Heinz

Wyomingites wanting to just grab a couple of friends and go target shooting could potentially be breaking the law if a federal bill introduced by a Massachusetts senator passes.

The Preventing Private Paramilitary Act of 2024 could potentially be used to ban just about any gun-related activity, Cody firearms instructor Bill Tallen told Cowboy State Daily.

“It would shut down even any three individuals going to the gun range to practice with firearms,” he said.

The bill, U.S. Senate File 3589, was introduced last month by Sen. Edward Markey, D-Massachusetts.

The bill’s stated intent is curb or prevent the formation and activities of armed extremist groups. Numerous loosely organized groups calling themselves “militias” sprang up around the county in the 1990s, and some remain active.

By strict definition, a militia is “maintained and raised by the state, and must answer to the governor,” Tallen said.

So, impromptu groups don’t qualify as actual militias.

Moreover, Wyoming already has a law on the books prohibiting unauthorized paramilitary groups, he said, although nobody has apparently ever been prosecuted under it.

[snip]

Beyond the implications of broadly applied criminal law, the bill could open gun owners up to civil lawsuits, Tallen said. It would allow people to take “civil actions” against those they consider to be armed extremists.

“If anybody observes you doing anything that they could construe as a violation of this act, they could file a civil action against you,” he said. “If you have a shotgun in the gun rack of your truck, they could file a civil suit against you. And no matter how that turned out, it could still end up costing you thousands of dollars.”

Sounds like a roundabout way to give friendly courts the justification they need to allow the US Military to take control of the Texas State Militia and similar state-run militias, which is necessary as we move into Full-Fascism phase of America.

Wyoming and its citizens should just ignore it if it becomes federal law just like Senile is ignoring the Supreme Court ruling against negating student loan repayments.

Markey is like Hillary and Liz Warren. Know it all Marxists who want to be in COMPLETE control. No guns so we can’t stand up to the mongrel hordes crossing the border.

My leftist brother in law hates guns and (irrationally) called me a liar for saying that the response time in case of a break in is 30 minutes to an hour. (I asked a Fairfax police officer). I said I would be dead by the time officers arrived. He replied with “you have to break eggs to make an omelet” line that ALL Marxists spew.

.........lol, Ed Markey’s Heritage Action Conservative voting score is 25% which is more than the chance this legislation will ever get out of committee much less passed by both houses and signed by a president.

It’s a waste of print to even write about it.

Markey’s nickname in Mass on the talk shows is “Mr Frosty” , why because the only other job he had before going to Washington was driving the Mr Frosty ice cream truck

My company used to send us to DC every year to lobby our state’s delegation. We would meet with the Senators and Markey was on a committee that regulated our business. Because I was not from his district, his aides would insure that I had written him a check before confirming a meeting. I Effing HATE that man.

The people who would meet with us every time, no questions? Ted and Joe Kennedy. I thought they were bad for the country…but they met with constituents. And they had good staff who briefed them.

Markey is a corrupt clown.

When Congress under the Speakership of James Madison debated the amendments to propose for the promised Bill of Rights, representatives of ONE state were opposed to the Second Amendment. Guess which state...starts with an M.

You mean you have to choose freedom of assembly or keep and bear arms?

You can’t exercise more than one right at a time?

A government that fears the people and wishes to control them. How very Soviet-like.

The militia is Constitutional. See Article Section 8.

To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the militia, and for governing such part of them as may be employed in the service of the United States, reserving to the states respectively, the appointment of the officers, and the authority of training the militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;
