Has anybody asked why is a Republican leading this bill if Democrats control the Senate?

What is Lankford hoping to get out of being the face of this bill? Why isn't a Democrat stooging for Biden on this?

I see this as a trap by Democrats to get Republicans to share the blame over the border during the 2024 election. As soon as a bill like this passes, the LAAP-dog media will immediately talk about the "bipartisan" border problem.

And just like that, the border becomes the Republicans' problem.

The bill should be one paragraph long.

‘Defund all programs to help illegals stay in the USA. Deport all illegals ASAP. Those who do not self-deport within 30 days can never return legally.’

Add one thing; "Prosecute all employers of illegals".

Obviously “Dems would not agree to [the border bill] unless there were major loopholes in it.”

modified from a Free Republic post

“there is a provision that allows the Biden team to essentially opt anyone out from the new supposedly expedited proceedings.”

“And if that weren’t bad enough, it allows Biden to SUSPEND the new authority if he wants to, rendering it meaningless”

The bill was negotiated in secret with Sen. Murphy (CT) and Sen. Sinema (AZ). Lankford is just in a role like Liz Cheney in the impeachment committee. Lankford has not likely read or understood the bill and had no say.

this guy is total fool or a disingenuous liar (or both) ... g
there are tons of laws already on the books regarding border security and illegal immigration, and everyone of them is being completely ignored by the Bidenista fascists...

why would adding yet ANOTHER law regarding border security and illegal immigration change anything? would the Bidenista fascists suddenly enforce THAT new law? ... of course not ...

Senator, If I read the bill and come away thinking you are a POS, will we still be friends? If not, maybe I should just not read it?

I've read it and I have a few questions

First, why do we need a border bill when the border invasion is being caused bu Biden ignoring the existing immigration laws already on the books that have worked for decades?

Second, since Biden and DHS head Mayorkas are openly and defiantly refusing to enforce existing border laws, how can we trust them to enforce even this disaster of a bill?

Team Biden and the Democrats disingenuously claim that the border invasion si a lack of resource allocation problem - ie, we simply are not spending enough to secure the border. How is sending 100+ billion dollars (10 times more than it spends on securing our border) to Ukraine, Israel and Hamas going to not divert critical resources need to secure our border security ?

How is sending $2.4 billion to the NGOs that are organizing and funding the transport of illegals to our border and then helping them cross going to help secure the border?

Add to it:

Close all of the borders, for 10 years, until we get a true handle on who's here, and for what reasons.

So why is he the face of the bill when Democrats control the Senate? Why isn't a Democrat fronting the bill?

Remember when Obama offered the Commerce Secretary to Judd Gregg (R-NH) back in 2009? The plot was to get Judd to resign and then have the Democrat governor of New Hampshire to appoint a Democrat and give Obama a filibuster-proof 60 seat majority (IMHO despite the governor's promise to fill the seat with another Republican).

Judd accepted the Commerce office until Obama announced that he was moving the Census from Commerce to the White House, making Judd's Cabinet position useless. Judd then withdrew from confirmation and kept his Senate seat.

I fear that Senate Republicans are being suckered again by having Lankford be the front-man for this bill, so that Democrats can hide behind Lankford to make the border crisis a Republican problem going into the 2024 election.

Holy *****. This might be the most insane part. This bill grants the far-left DC District Court exclusive authority over future immigration disputes.

Asterisks mine.

Looks like Mr Lankford bought himself a primary with this latest adventure of his. It’s not like he is representing a blue or moderate state. He is representing the reddest of red states and he goes off the reservation to do something stupid like this. Should be interesting to now watch him squirm to get of this fine political mess he cooked up for himself.

I just wasted ten minutes and sent emails to my rat senators. Yea, I kinda suggested that a yes vote is unpatriotic and anti-American.
