Republican Ohio Rep. Bill Johnson will resign from his position on Jan. 21 to take a job as president of Youngstown State University, according to multiple reports.
Johnson was expected to assume his new position at the university on March 15, WFMJ reported. His new start date comes earlier than expected (via WFMJ):
In his resignation letter sent to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Johnson described the residents of his district as "proud and patriotic," but disregarded by America's "elites," which Johnson said included academics even as he prepares to take over an academic institution.
"These blue-collar communities, like countless others in 'flyover county' were critical in building our great nation and will play a pivotal role in America's future. I am extremely humbled to have been repeatedly elected to serve them," Johnson said.
YSU Trustee Chairman Michael Peterson shared the news in a message to the university community.
"Bill brings a commitment to advancing our institution's mission, and we eagerly anticipate the contributions he and his wife LeeAnn will make to our community," Peterson reportedly said.
Johnson began representing Ohio’s sixth congressional district in 2011 and is an Air Force veteran.
On Thursday, Gov. Mike DeWine (R-OH) announced special election dates to fill the position in Congress. In June, the special congressional general election will take place.
In recent weeks, Johnson, as well as former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, resigned from Congress. Additionally, former New York Rep. George Santos was expelled from Congress.
This House can only be minimally productive. Chuck and Joe will kill most of what they pass.
What if Soros and son offered a few GOP people some secret cash in numbered offshore accounts to take life easy?
Conservative takes over as president of university.
He’ll be replaced in June with another conservative Republican.
That’s a win-win.
Rats are starting to abandon ship ahead of the retribution that is coming.
GOP caucus is a hot mess. Totally feckless and unreliable. I have more contempt for them as a group than I do for the democrats, going back to 2018 when dozens of incumbents abandoned the country so new democrats could seize control. At least the rats are open about what they are.
A freaking budget would be nice. There only mandatory job.
This happens like clockwork every time it looks like we might have a decisive election. The deep state tells enough members to leave to put it in question.
It is as predictable as the sun rising.
That’s a fair point.
What I want to see them produce is dismantling the administrative state. Numerous agencies simply should not exist.
No BIGGIE. The guy’s a TNA LIFETIME 57% SUPPORT OF THE CONSTITUTION!
I agree. I remember the roar over simply moving agriculture department out to the Midwest. You’d think trump was asking for everyone first born. It’s going to be insanely difficult to get rid of departments completely. Even though it should be done.
Sounds like many on both sides have fear Trump is coming back and will have shitty shoes on to kick a lot of ass.
Plus, the salary of the President of Youngstown State University is $410,000 not including perks. See here :

The salary of a Congressman is just $174,000.
Money-wise, it’s hard to blame Bill Johnson for accepting the offer.
