How a Proxy Fight Over Campus Politics Brought Down Harvard’s President
The New York Times ^ | January 3, 2023 | Nicholas Confessor

The resignation of Harvard’s president, Claudine Gay, on Tuesday followed a lengthening catalog of plagiarism allegations that appeared to steadily sap her support among the university’s faculty, students and alumni. But for many of Dr. Gay’s critics, her departure was also a proxy victory in the escalating ideological battle over American higher education.

Taking down Dr. Gay was a “a huge scalp” in the “fight for civilizational sanity,” Josh Hammer, a conservative talk show host and writer, wrote on the social media platform X.

One of the better (saner) comments in the Times.

“If Claudine Gay’s resignation was a “proxy” win for conservatives, it is because they are holding the high ground on this issue. Confessore draws from every logical fallacy in the book to suggest that this was somehow a sinister plot concocted by book-burning conspiracy theorists from Florida/Twitter/Wherever. It is an indefensible embarrassment that encapsulates many of the disturbing illiberal trends on the left that are sending this country straight back to Trump land. Could we please end the cognitive distortion and return to universal principles of fairness, equality, and justice?

Spinning up the narrative that the ReTrumplicans insurrected her. She never plagiarized. She just used someone else’s writings without giving them credit.

Really, for any liberal, it always is about evading accountability and responsibility using all the rationalization and blame shifting and gaslighting you can. Even with video evidence. Even with paper trails. Even with witnesses.

Remember these are the same people that demand others that don’t hold their views be silent, be fired just for what they THINK. They demand they be fired for the tiniest transgressions that their own beliefs support people doing. IE conservatives having affairs. But they bent over backwards to defend Clinton to the point of absurdity.

“fairness, equality, and justice”

Lefists hate fairness and equality, they implement “Diversity” to ensure unfair treatment benefiting their preferred constituencies and harming others. “Diversity” is fundamental racism, the antithesis of fairness and equality.

Lefitst hate “equality” and have replaced it with “equity”, which is demonstrably in every case stealing from productive whitey anf giving to lazy blackie. I dare anyone to point to an “equity” policy that doesn’t amount to exactly that. That “equity” therefore causes laziness is beyond their comprehension, so expect cries of “racist” when you point out this feature of their racism.

“Justice” is a foreign concept to Leftists. They believe in group guilt, brought to them by Critical Race Theory. If white, then guilty. If Black (they even get their own capitalization) then innocent, or at least excusable because “systematic racism”.

DEI is just racist communism in drag.

Plagiarism is just an excuse to fire her. Wealthy alumni donors have been dropping Harvard and other schools for supporting antisemitic violence.

There was a great opinion piece in the EPOCH Times about this. The piece was written before she resigned. It claims the left now consider plagiarism a-okay under the guise of “free speech”.

That overstates what happened. Given the faculty and admins at Harvard, they will appoint someone just as bad for education but with less baggage. Harvard will remain an extraordinarily well funded center for communist/fascist ideology and revolution against everything decent.

It is still just a center for indoctrination attached to a hedge fund.

Or that accusing someone of such is White Privilege and therefore racist.

That's not the point. In fact, I want Harvard to keep making an ass of itself and its professors.

The point is that this fiasco brought world-wide attention to the embarrassing nonsense that Harvard (and other "elite institutions") have become.

Harvard can appoint the occupants of the Wringling Bros. Clown Car act to its board of directors, for all I care. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I stopped taking Harvard seriously decades ago.

I don’t really care how it was done, so long as we got the necessary result.

Gay proved how stupid she was. Could have gone out gracefully like the former Prez of Stanford (another liar) or Penn, but instead pulled out all stops to remain. Not smart when you have so many skeletons in the closet. Now she completely destroyed herself.

Actually, we don’t yet know how stupid she was. Given all of the publicity she got, the Left usually REWARDS people like her with TV gigs or friendly ‘book deals’.

We shall see...
