WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is hosting nearly 100 lawmakers from around the country on Wednesday to work on how their states can try to reduce gun violence.
The gun violence prevention office, the first of its kind, was launched this year by President Joe Biden. It has formulated a set of guidelines to help states take action across six areas, including creating state-run offices like the federal office, strengthening support for survivors and families of victims, and reinforcing responsible gun ownership.
“We’ve been meeting with the state legislators ever since the start of our office, and one thing we hear all the time is they want to do more to reduce gun violence,” said Stefanie Feldman, director of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention. “The question is, what should they do and how?”
Lawmakers from 39 states are attending Wednesday’s gathering, including legislators from Nevada, where a gunman last week killed three faculty members and wounded a fourth in a roughly 10-minute rampage at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. That shooter had a list of targets at the university and more than 150 rounds of ammunition, police said.
Vice President Kamala Harris is overseeing the office and will speak to the lawmakers on Wednesday.

This is wisdom thousands of years old and we need to stop pretending otherwise.
Of course... we KNOW they don’t actually care about protecting the innocent. They want us HELPLESS to stop them from continuing their destruction of the Republic. They don’t actually care how many 4 year old’s are killed in the cross-fire of the gang violence their policies created... Well, they don’t care beyond how those death’s can be used in their agitprop during the blood dance they do for their media lapdogs.
Have the government stop destroying the family unit especially among blacks since they are the main source of “gun violence”. Maybe look into prescription kooky pills that they give to kids nowadays
Here is novel idea, enforce the laws already on the books and put criminal in jail.
“Something about using ‘brainstorming’ and ‘white house’ in the same sentence seems odd.”
No worse than the welded-together-forever nonsensical term “gun violence” where a word indicating action (violence) is connected to an inanimate object (gun). The correct formation should be “human violence committed with a (insert chosen inanimate object here).” This moves the focus to the actor committing the act rather than the inanimate object.
So what is the subtext here? (There’s always a subtext.) How are they profiting besides merely virtue signaling?
The “lawmakers” just need to wander through the bad parts of DC and other cities after midnight.
The criminals might eventually run out of bullets....

I am mostly interested in whether and which Republicans are participating, but "knowing your enemy" is always valuable.
The real solution is to prosecute those with illegal guns committing crimes. That would require guts and politicians just want the easy way out.
