Ohio Republican Rep. Bill Johnson on Tuesday announced that he would leave Congress to accept a position as President of Youngstown State University.
"After much thought and prayerful deliberation, I have accepted the offer to lead Youngstown State University and will not be seeking an 8th term in Congress," he said. "As I've stated previously, I wasn't looking for another job, because I love the one I have serving the people of Eastern Ohio in the U.S. House."
"This was an extremely difficult decision. This is not a goodbye, however. I will continue serving in the House for several more months, and you will see no let up. My offices are open and my staff remains ready to serve you," Johnson went on. "There is still much left on my agenda to do before I depart Congress, including doing all I can to help pass tax exemption legislation to benefit the people of East Palestine as well as a broader rail safety bill, streamline America’s LNG export process, and advance a responsible budget and spending package for the remainder of this fiscal year. It’s business as usual."
Johnson's current term is set to expire in early 2025, though his departure timeline of "several more months" appears to suggest that he plans to leave in the middle of the term. His departure will likely complicate Republican efforts in the House, where the GOP maintains a razor-thin majority.

Pretty disgusting when they don’t finish.
52% score is pretty weak, l’m thinking Rino.
My wife says that all the time… 🙄
Can a conservative win that district?
Don’t finish??? He would be running for 8th term!!! How is this not finishing??
This is the way to get rid of RINOs and fossils - higher paying gigs with less work.
Republicans are on the run again. The turd rollers have got them scared to death. Just like the illegal alien invaders, yellow cowards who are to shickenchit to fight for their country.
Kind of a nobody. Never heard of him up here by nearby cleveland.
The November 2024 primaries is RINO season. Vote ‘em out.
Well, Bill won in what used to be a blue district until the War on Coal gutted it. Nothing's changed there, mines closed, 1000 jobs lost in Monroe County when the aluminum plant was closed....... Nobody here thinks a Democrat would do anything but help the Hussein O'Biden clique double down on that.
I follow Johnson pretty closely, I being a 6th District resident. Pretty satisfied with him, especially through the East Palestine disaster. Would not have thought I'd need to be vetting a replacement so soon. Disappointed.
The Founding Fathers expected the House to be made up of citizen legislators for a two year term, representing the needs and wishes of the electorate, then at the end of two years, go back home and be replaced with another citizen. This business of staying in The House for decades and becoming filthy rich is a far cry from the original set up. The love of money and the lust of power it engenders truly is the root of all evil. Hopefully, the people of Ohio will elect a conservative to replace him. God in Heaven! Politics is a filthy business.
How many representatives have recently announced they will not be running for re-election? Ten or eleven I believe.
I think that they know what economical disaster is coming so they are getting out while the getting out is good. I was thinking last week that the democrats might just deliberately throw the election to the GOP (and even Trump) so they can blame the destruction on Republicans.
GOOD RIDDANCE!
Now replace him with a real conservative. It's up to you, voters.
Students and alumni held a protest in Youngstown Monday about the potential selection of Ohio U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) as Youngstown State University’s next president. Hundreds of alumni, students, faculty and others have signed onto a letter urging the university to not choose Johnson and to restart the presidential search process with more community input. Johnson, who has represented eastern and southeastern Ohio since 2011, is a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump. […]
The Facebook event for the student-led protest, created by the group Community Concerned for the Future of YSU, noted their opposition to Johnson as a candidate.
“Johnson’s horrific record of insurrectionist and anti-democratic action, hostility towards minorities, and denial of basic climate science are in stark opposition to the principles of public education,” the event page reads. …
If you are a LeftTard, like this creep, you ain’t a Christian and you’re not doing any “Prayerful” consideration of anything.
That’s a lie!
Thanks!
They all ride off to their cush jobs.....continuing the grift.
Sickening.
What HAS changed is that the city of Youngstown is now in the district. Trump won the old 6th in 2020 with 72% of the vote; under the current lines that would be "only" about 64%. No Republican should lose this district, in any event.
Ohio Congressional District 6 demographics and election results
I understand that it's easier for people to judge a member of Congress based on one cherry-picked number ("Liberty Score") which is calculated based on a tiny number of votes, but people who are capable of comprehending a bit more data can look here:
Bill Johnson election results and congressional vote ratings
Johnson is no conservative, but the cherry-pickers who make it sound like he's a liberal nearly 50% of the time are misleading, not to mention asinine.
