SACRAMENTO — The Republican Party will hold a presidential candidate debate at the Ronald Reagan library Wednesday. It’s a bad fit. The GOP’s modern idol is exactly the opposite of Reagan in personality and character. For upbeat Reagan, America was a “shining city on the hill.” For whining Donald Trump, it’s a waste bin for venom and lies.
Reagan’s soaring rhetoric made people feel good about themselves. There was “always a bright dawn ahead” — “Morning in America.”
Yes, maybe that was a tad naive and corny, but it brought a collective smile — and won over many Democrats.

TRUMP OFFERS HOPE!
Reagan was fighting Liberals, Trump isfighting reds.
I think the Left is sincere. In their eyes, Trump makes Reagan look good.
I understand how they feel. For me, Obama made Clinton look good. And Clinton made Carter look good. The Democrats are getting worse and worse.
And I'm sure that's how they see Republicans.
George, you hate Reagan. Stop lying.
The latest one is always the worst.
Desperation is setting in because they are even praising Reagan now.
What a joke, these people hated Reagan.
Thank you for playing, Skelton.
Vanna has some lovely parting gifts for you.
You forget that Reagan started his fight in the 40s after 9 years in the military, first as an FBI informant against the Communists, then 5 terms as Hollywood union boss and having to carry a gun because of the Communists and the left, then being called back to union boss for a 6th term and then campaigning for Republicans during the “Red Scare” 50s, making the great speech at the Goldwater convention, followed by 8 years as California Governor during the peak of the radical bombing leftists, and gun carrying Black Panther and Black Militant shoot-outs and racial riots of the 1960s and racial Indian uprisings, and then the 8 years of the presidency when he destroyed the Russian empire while fighting off the American democrat left.
He did all that without talk radio, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and right-wing internet or a GOP congress (a congress most of us had never seen or thought possible).
During Reagan’s time in politics and leadership, we saw incredible violence and turmoil with cities burning, troops in America, and mass arrests on record-breaking scales.
Think of a terrorist bombing every week on average, 13,000 demonstrators arrested in one city, 82nd Airborne Paratroopers and Marines flying into DC by the thousands.
More information warfare from the democrat party.
“What a joke, these people hated Reagan.”
That was my very thought.
LOL. That’s not what the LA Times or any of the old media said in 1980.
Reagan is safe now that he is dead. So they can say anything nice about him that they want.
That's all you need to read of everything this dweeb ever wrote to know he's a creepy little Nazi.
“Always consider the source,” my Dad’s constant reminder.
The same Libs we’re calling home Ronnie Ray Gun and saying he’d start a nuclear war.
Screw ‘em.
To put this drivel out there means, to me, that the left does not know how to regain their initiative of controlling the narrative.
To even consider this tripe would have any measurable effect on anything whatsoever screams of desperation.
And Trump is ‘orange man’!!!!!! Sheesh!
DT had/has a terrible makeup artist and I use the word ‘artist’ very loosely.
The LA Times, together with the rest of the propaganda media, was completely stunned at the outpouring of affection for Reagan when he died. I was in Washington DC to watch his casket on the way to the Capitol. Constitution Ave was lined with people paying their respects to Reagan. The same happened when his casket went up to the Reagan library in California.
The legacy media lived in a bubble of elite leftism way back in the 1990s. Now they are even more isolated from reality than ever.
