We are now in a society that chooses to mainstream dysfunction. The only rational answer is there’s money in it. The “big” winners are therapists, healthcare, attorneys and a government that exists to victimize people and then “solve” their problems.

The question should be “Can you haul ass in just one trip?”

The FAA model for an "average" traveler is 180 lbs. They do weight and balance calculations on the basis. When flying out of Pocatello on the Embraer turbo props, the number of passengers is smaller and the weight and balance more volatile. It was common to move "big" customers forward to get the "balance" right before flight. The whale authoring this article is clearly not anywhere close to the average FAA passenger. As of this morning, I'm 156 lbs, 5 ft 11 in. No problem fitting on any commercial aircraft. I do object strenuously to having a 300 to 400 lb passenger planted next to me is oozing over the tops of the arm rests. Totally unacceptable. Pay for two seats if you want to get on a standard aircraft.

Yeah. When does fat become a protected class, with jailtime for anyone who makes a fat person feel “uncomfortable”?

Discrimination in relationships????There ought to be a law. Government should end discrimination of all kinds. Fat people are people too. There needs to be equity. That can be achieved by pairing thin people with obese people using a couple quota system. Each couple must have a total weight of 450lb +/- 50lbs. That will lead to a diversity of relationships since there are different combinations to get to 400-500lbs. Perhaps allowing polygamy is another way to achieve equity and diversity.
Granted, it will take time, but eventually you’ll see changes in transportation seating. Government mandates for side-by-side large and small seating will aid in ending this most hideous form of discrimination when traveling. (I really hope no one is asking if this is sarcasm.)

Not much said in the article that they should purchase two seats.....

Right. There was an article posted here at FR a few weeks back about a fat man who did exactly that. He purchased two seats for his comfort and anyone sitting next to him.
Well it turned out that some doofus who did not plan ahead asked the fat guy if he wouldn’t mind trading seats so the doofus and his family could sit together. “No.”
The doofus caused a scene, but lost. Sentiment on FR was solidly in favor of the fat guy.

I was booked on Lufthansa to Frankfurt am Main on a 747. I was thrilled at finally getting to fly on a 747. The thrill quickly abated as I was seated between a couple 250 lb Germans who were charter members of the "bath a month" club. Gag. It was a miserable 9 hour flight. Never again. The sad part is that my reason for being on the flight was to help Lufthansa remediate their Y2K problems in the 747 maintenance software.
The "fragrant" experience was augmented by having an infant with a poopy diaper changed just a few seats away. There is a changing table in the restroom. Don't do that on in the passenger cabin on the seats.

I was working a contract at SHAPE and had a weekend "off". It was an excuse to travel to Paris with a co-worker. We drove to the edge of town and parked the rental car. In my best French, I ordered train tickets to get us downtown. We emerged from the train station in the middle of a big protest that was being quelled by the police. A few blocks away, the Louvre. It was a Sunday morning and we were blessed with free admission. Good thing since ATMs did not exist and we somewhat underestimated how much cash to take out for the weekend. The Louvre was great. On exit, we realized that the cash on hand would buy us an ice cream cone (each), pay for the parking lot and put one tank of gas into the rental to return to SHAPE. We enjoyed seeing the Eiffel Tower from ground level, but didn't have money to visit. It worked out. A interesting visit.
