ATLANTA – The U.S. Soccer Federation is moving its headquarters from Chicago to Atlanta and building the first-ever National Training Center in the metro area, the organization announced Friday.

The Arthur M. Blank Foundation is contributing $50 million toward the state-of-the art facility, which will house U.S. Soccer’s nine teams. The money also will be used to grow the game of soccer across the U.S.

“America’s top athletes deserve the best when it comes to preparing them for competition on the global stage,” Blank said. “Atlanta’s incredible passion for soccer, corporate community and unmatched infrastructure make this a natural home for the National Training Center.”

“For many decades, sports have been an essential part of Georgia’s history and culture,” Gov. Brian Kemp added. “From hosting visitors to training the next generation of athletes, we’re glad that this project will create new opportunities for local businesses and hardworking Georgians.”

Good move in getting out of Chicago. But, in selecting Atlanta, this may be a case of jumping from frying pan to fire. However, it does say "metro area" so hopefully they have enough sense to build on the outskirts of the city in one of the surrounding counties.

Great /sarc. Guess another facility that “won’t use our tax dollars” BS just like the new Braves stadium. I have seen my property taxes increase 800 and 1600 dollars annually in Cobb County. Hopefully it’s located elsewhere in Atlanta. Politicians will surely give tax breaks to the organization.

Should move it to Europe or Central America instead, where fans actually exist.

Hope it’s not gonna be like Division 1 men’s college soccer where the 12 Europeans on the team all play and the remaining 26 Americans hardly play. Strange that soccer has grown so much in USA and has gotten much better but we have more foreign coaches (with contempt for USA) who heavily recruited in their home nations like some Visa extension program and then Americans hardly see the field. I’ve coached some heavy hitter kids who went off to college to be the fastest and strongest on their respective teams and never saw a minute. Not even a chance ever. It’s like the coaches were afraid they’d score and then be compelled to play them. SAD.

Sounds like Atlanta is now safely Deep Dark Blue. A safe place for Soccer HQ.
