A federal judge on Wednesday issued an order setting limits on where and how former President Donald Trump can discuss classified information with his defense lawyers for the criminal case where he is charged with retaining classified documents after leaving the White House.
The order by Judge Aileen Cannon in U.S. District Court for southern Florida instructing Trump ansd his lawyers to discuss that information in a secured location endorsed limitations sought by prosecutors from the office of special counsel Jack Smith over the objections of Trump.
But Cannon’s order was vague on the question of whether several concessions sought by Trump about how he could discuss classified information would eventually be granted in one form or the other.

Not out of bounds to require communications of a classified nature to take place in a SCIF. He probably has access to several.
Colonel, USAF JAGC (Ret)
That’s Constitutional BS.
If DJT had documents in his possession as President, and took them home, they are automatically declassified.
The word ‘retained’ is bothersome, beceause it implies he had the power to de-classify at will as President; why should the presumption be they remain ‘classified’ when he transitioned to ‘citizen’?
This is a set-up to enable the government to indict Trump again for what he might say to his lawyers.
The insanity continues to compound.
I thought Judge Eileen Cannon was pro-Trump!
Yeah. Not sure many are buying that.
She’s pro law which is good.
She is clueless on the law. Trump had every right to the documents.
I suppose this entire narrative is to keep promoting the idea that Trump was working on behalf of foreign interests.
From what I have heard, the classified documents that Trump supposedly retained are related to the attempts to prove “Russian collusion.” In other words, they are not documents that would give away information gravely detrimental to US security interests.
The DOJ posted pictures of boxes of allegedly classified material that Trump stored at Mar-a-Lago. One of the boxes had broken open and spilled a bunch of newspapers and photographs. I don’t actually believe that newspapers and photographs constitute “classified material.”
I would like to see more on Biden’s illegal retention of classified documents in his garage and in his office at the U of PA. I want to know who he allowed to view those documents. Seems to me that Hunter’s appointments to sit on high-level corporate boards in China and Ukraine might be payment for the information contained in those documents.
They have done away with the concept of A/C privilege, executive privilege and deliberative privilege completely when it comes to Trump. Unconstitutional (No Due Process) and an extremely dangerous precedent, but the leftists NEVER thinks things through before enacting their BS. Pretty soon it will get extended to everyone in the US regardless of politics, and will not be recognized by any courts anymore. We are at least halfway down the slippery slope.
Interesting. Where does the Judge get her classification/declassification authority vis-a-vis the President Trump documents? My question to the judge: Cite me your authority for your order?
You are correct.
He does not have to perform some ceremony to declassify anything.
He does not have to say “I declassify thee” or even give anyone notice.
Nobody is suggesting the judge has declassification authority.
My question to the judge: Cite me your authority for your order?
President Trump is a defendant in her court. To the extent that classified documents are evidence in a case in front of her, she has a responsibility to set parameters on their use.
Why would the subject matter of what the documents contain be a matter of contention or importance. The issue is whether or not Trump had a right to them, whether the FBI was justified in raiding the place, whether or not Trump was complying with FBI demands previous to the raid, whether or not the National Archives had the authority to engage in their part, and whether or not the DOJ even has standing to pursue the indictments.
If it was so classified, why is no one being investigated for taking and releasing the photos?
I’ve seen nothing indicating Jack Smith, or any of the prosecuting team, has sufficient clearance to review or to discuss any of the material they are alleging Trump “stole’”
I think the chink in the armor is that PDJT didn't personally pack those boxes and move them to Mar-a-Lago. I think there are classified documents in the mix that were never declassified and I think their presence in the boxes was deliberate.
