Ford retires gas-powered cars in electric vehicle expansion

Ford is retiring three internal combustion engine models – the Escape, Edge and Transit Connect – to make room for new electric vehicles.

Legacy automobile companies that have been producing internal combustion engine vehicles for decades have been addicted to their gas-powered models as electric vehicles began to make their mark over the past dozen or so years. Those companies have slowly begun to make commitments to transition to all-electric, but some have been changing at a snail's pace.

General Motors (GM) - Get Free Report rolled out its Chevy Spark EV in 2013 before launching its popular Chevy Bolt EV in 2015. The Spark departed the U.S. market in 2022. Chevy Bolt became the second best-selling electric vehicle behind the Tesla Model S when it was launched in 2017, but in April 2023, GM said it would discontinue the Bolt. But GM's CEO Mary Barra subsequently said in June that it might bring back the Bolt.

GM, however, might be getting more serious about transitioning to all-electric, as it in March said that it would discontinued the Chevy Camaro gasoline-powered car at the end of the 2024 model year.

Nissan (NSANY) had already established the Leaf as a top selling EV after it was launched in 2010, but Tesla's Model S in 2015 knocked the Leaf off the top spot. The Japanese company has said it will phase out the Leaf in the next few years and replace it with a new vehicle by 2026.

So Ford is also moving toward electric cars.

Good. China has a HUGE lead in moving toward electronic vehicles.

Now can we please change to some other power source, and get rid of Lithium.

Sodium?

Lots, and lots, and lots of Americans do not live where it is warm all year.

Pretty anemic numbers if you ask me. In those years the Chevy Malibu sold 5x-10x as much, and actually MADE money.

That statement makes NO sense whatsoever. You are not "addicted" to make something that people want to buy that you can sell at a profit that you are already tooled up for.

Bummer...

I am happy with my Fusion hybrid but was disappointed when Ford discontinued the line in 2020. I was hoping to stay with four-door sedans but would consider moving to a compact SUV if I had to.

Maybe a BMW 3 series?

If you like hybrid sedans, how about a Toyota Crown?

EVs are doomed. Gasoline will rule the day.

Welcome to Cuba.
Hang on to your ICE vehicles
as long as possible.
There’s going to be a gradual
urgency in seeing that what
you have is in good shape and
running well. Parts and service
costs are going to go thru the
roof.
Not all can afford the purchase
price of a new car, which I
believe to be most of the US,
much less the infrastructure
required to keep your forced
buy EV at the same freedoms.
This is all about control of
the populace, folks.

Maybe. I'm likely going to get a luxury car next time around.

The thing I like most about the Fusion was that the advanced features came standard with the hybrid version. Unfortunately, I couldn't wait for the Titanium version to come out when I bought mine.

It's now 10 years old and I must have about 40,000 miles on it. The high-voltage battery seems to be doing fine, it gets about 40 MPG, and I don't need to replace it yet.

But I'm looking ahead to the next car.

I don’t need another car but I am considering buying a gas-powered car just to keep in my garage for when the time comes that buying them is illegal but driving them is still legal.
The goal of the electric-car madness is to limit how easily people can move.

Ford getting rid of three of its’ worst models. Cheap throwaways that they never should have made in the first place. The Transit is actually MADE in Turkey, for
Pete’s sake!

I have 250,000 miles on my truck and the engine is about shot. So I started looking for another truck. OMG I said I’m not going to spend that much. Even a decent used one is like $40,000. I’m going to roll the dice and put a used engine in. I’m perfectly fine riding in an old brat up truck. I let the wife have the nice newer vehicle.
