Opinion: Biden needs to steal a page from the Reagan playbook

CNN — Republicans are hammering away at President Joe Biden over his economic record. Despite good news that has been reported in recent weeks, including low unemployment, a revived stock market and apparently receding inflation, the GOP is attempting to deny Biden any credit for the economy in the 2024 presidential campaign.

On the same day that fresh inflation data showed that prices continued to cool down, Republicans seized on the headline that the Consumer Price Index rose 3.2% in July compared to where it had been last year, the first time there had been an uptick in 13 months. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy sent out a press release warning that the president’s “anti-energy policies” were resulting in higher gasoline costs. “With gas prices soaring, millions across the country are struggling once again to fill up their tanks and make ends meet,” the press release stated.

Opinion: Biden needs to steal a page from the Reagan playbook

Yep, he could steal/plagarize "I now begin the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life. I know that for America there will always be a bright dawn ahead. Thank you, my friends."

I see three points being made up front:

1) The economy right now is doing amazingly well.
2) Joe Biden ought to be seen as the direct cause of the current state of the economy.
3) Those mean Republicans refuse to recognize that Joe is the cause of the current economy.

The author sees the world differently than I do.

There is no "economic good news" under Biden!

Slowing the rate at which you're getting fat is NOT good health news!

10 Million working age folks out of the workforce is NOT good news!

I wonder if Reagan would have said that if he knew what would be happening in America in 2023.

Here’s the problem with using the “Reagan playbook” today.

There’s no value in promoting a low unemployment rate as an indicator of economic strength today. Fewer voters than ever before even care about holding a job. They just want the money — without the effort and hassle of working for it.

I wonder how that happened. Heck, I’d like a lot of free cash to
spend as I’d like. Who brought those types or induced them to
think that way? Was it our ancestors? Shame on them if it was.

Figures lie when liars figure. Everyone knows how bad the economy is, we are reminded every time we go to the grocery store or the gas station we don’t have a whole lot electric cars where we we live and most of what we see are Canadian.

My next door neighbor is trying to sell their house, which they built two years ago. They want to escape the woke school board, but the interest rates are scaring away buyers. No one believes the lies about the economy.

“On the same day that fresh inflation data showed that prices continued to cool down...”

I thought the inflation rate ticked up last month. Was I misinformed?

Also the inflation rate does not include the price of fuel, up quite a bit, and groceries, also up. Oddly even though the government does not include them in official inflation rates, the lowly peasant notices gas and food prices rising right away.

Next they’ll be telling us the chocolate ration has been increased to 25 g.

That unemployment rate (3.5%?) means zippity-doo-dah to me. It is no indicator of the stagnating society. The labor non-participating rate is 37%, of which I’d say the vast majority are people who have decided they’re better off on disability, welfare, ISS or other drains on the public treasury.

And that’s the reality we see at Walmart the 1st of every month. And it’s hardly a glowing economic/social/cultural/ethical picture by any measure.
