Green Cars, Red Ink: Ford Set to Lose $4.5 Billion on Electric Vehicles This Year

Ford Motor Company projects it will lose a staggering $4.5 billion on electric vehicles (EVs) in 2023, up from its previously predicted loss of $3 billion earlier this year.

Ford, which has recently reduced the price of its electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck, announced Thursday that the company is projected to lose $4.5 billion from EVs this year, according to a report by Fortune.

The company’s EV division, called “Ford Model e,” has already lost about $1.8 billion so far this year. The projected loss of $4.5 billion reportedly stems from slower-than-expected adoption of the new battery-powered vehicles.

No kidding, very few are jumping on the EV wagon.
Maybe they should also buy a horse and wagon, so they have something to pull the EV with when it is discharged!

For an amusing story regarding EV charging see the story linked here:

https://www.westernjournal.com/california-ev-driver-winds-front-page-rural-montana-newspaper-plugging-car-without-permission/

My favorite paragraph:

“As for a real charger for EVs in Ekalaka? The Montana Free Press described Lauterbach as “bullish” on the prospect. However, the manager of the co-op didn’t sound that way, even though he acknowledged the town was “going to have to do something in the next decade, or some amount of time.””

No need to get in a hurry.

I would say good, but it’s bad for the poor souls who are going to take it in the shorts for the company having it’s head up it’s butt on the green scam. Of course most probably voted for Joey B, so my care is tempered.

How much did they expect to lose? The actual accounting loss is a number in a vacuum.

By 1930 the auto war between ICE, EV and steam was all but over. ICE won FOR A GOOD REASON.

I will be helping Ford on the way to bankruptcy ... not buying any of their EV crap or anything else.

"Car companies such as Ford, are probably banking on government regulations force feeding electric cars, and they expect to make profits in future years on electrics, even if they show big losses now."

I don't think that 'banking' is the correct word. I am positive that the Biden cartel has visited each and every ICE manufacturer and told them that if they didn't start cramming EVs down our throats, that company would soon find themselves regulated, fined, etc out of business.

And I don't think the den of phaggs, phreaks, and phanaticks in WDC would stop at limiting their threats to the business itself. I would not be surprised if pictures of executive's families and other loved ones are included in the FedGov's presentation.

Ford losing $billions is bad for the employees, stockholders, and the economy. But that’s what you get when the CEO falls for the latest fad. Same goes for the tranny fad from Bud and Target. Dumb jerks.

They hire barely out of puberty, 23 year old marketing MBAs to represent the company. Those clowns never drank a beer or drove a muscle car.

Correct. Legislation (federal and several large states) already in effect mandates this.

Easy Fix, Biden just needs to Mandate that All Federal Employee’s exclusively use All electric vehicles for all transportation to and from their respective workplace, then require All States to do the same or all Federal Funding is pulled from the State.

Warms my heart. What a joke.

Ford is stupid, pushing an EV pickup truck. Not particularly good at hauling heavy goods or towing over long distances. They should have concentrated on an urban sedan econo-car. A waste of money to spend $70K and more on an EV truck. Tesla will win this battle, because all they sell are various EV models, soon a truck will be among their offerings which caters to their fans.

We'll have to boycott automobile companies. The government isn't even doing anything to expand our infrastructure to support the EVs. Just now, we were able get a new nuclear reactor running, first time in 40 years. We should be building at least 20 new nuclear reactors right now if we are serious about the conversion from ICE vehicles to EVs

Ford stock is averaging $10 since 2009.
I bought it then at about $5.25 and it tripled in 1 year. I held on till 2014 and sold. That stock sits at around $10 average year after year. In 2022 it spiked to $25+ but quickly descended back to 10 to 13 a share probably because of the hype of electric vehicles. Now some $6.5 billion losses later with more to come the stock is back down to $13 and heading further down.

We are witnessing the end of automobile manufacturing in the United States. The only winners will be foreign countries that assemble cars here.

I watched a video of a Brit hauling a big camper behind a BMW SUV EV with a range of about 300 miles or so. He first made a 100 mile trip without the camper and then with it. Hauling the camper cut the range in half. The BMW had about 35% charge left after hauling the camper. This is similar results to the F150 Lighting hauling a camper video produced earlier this year. Imagine the range with harsh winter conditions.

Hauling the camper cut the range in half.

Those people who drive trucks and haul heavy stuff know these things. People who have never driven a truck under load are naive, and are buying these trucks to satisfy their ego.

My ICE truck can haul goods, but I can feel the extra strain put upon my truck, both in excessive use of gasoline as well as more difficult handling and longer braking time. Sure, EV's have incredible torque and pulling power, but there is a price to pay, just as with gasoline and diesel vehicles. EV's excel in an urban environment with short runs where range is not a big deal. On extended trips, not so much.

I’ve never been a truck owner but have a buddy that is. Some years ago he bought a bass boat. The trailer has assisted breaking capabilities. I think the system is rather simple. In the BMW video I mentioned, the camper has active communication with the BMW and actively coordinates breaking and anti-snaking prevention. I thought that was kind of cool even though the max range is about 100 miles or so..
