FBI officials improperly searched a foreign intelligence database for information on a U.S. Senator, a state senator and a state judge, according to an unsealed court opinion released Friday.
The improper queries of the surveillance collection tool, which allegedly occurred last year -- could further roil an ongoing push by the Biden Administration to have the Section 702 program reauthorized before it is set to expire by the end of this year.
The disclosures come even as the FBI said it has reported significant improvements in oversight to help curb further abuse of what intelligence officials argue is an essential tool to protect U.S. national security.
The U.S. senator whose information was improperly searched has been notified, but the state senator and the state judge have not, according to officials who briefed reporters on the opinion Friday. The officials also said that even though the searches were wrongfully conducted, none of the individuals were "surveilled" and no information was specifically collected about the lawmakers or the judge.

What aren’t they identifying the Senators and Judge?
Seems strategic
So? What are their names? Why aren’t they in the gulag awaiting execution? Seriously, that needs to be the penalty to check the full force of government.
Something else for Wray to lie about before congress and play dumb
They only told the US Senator, not the state senator or judge. That’s interesting.
The big story is not who made the database inquiry, it was WHO told them to find the information. Who is it?
Defund the FBI, DOJ
Lindsey Graham?
Yes, by firing 100% of them
Further evidence that FISA must be renewed later this year. It’s protecting us all.
Darrell is taking the rap for the 7,000 other FBI khaki wearing zealots who have been up to no good. Darrell’s sacrifice offers cover for management at the DOJ, as obviously reforms have been put into place. /s
This current edition of the FBI makes J Edgar Hoover look like a saint.
Look at the way Fox news framed the headline:
“FISA Court opinion reveals a US senator, state senator, state judge got swept up in 702 queries”
They were just “swept up” in the queries much like you accidentally sweep up a quarter from the floor. It wasn’t intentional of course. It’s not as if the FBI was TRYING to spy on those parties.
Of course they were!
And of course knowing that there is a possibility that they will be defunded and not reauthorized later this year, the FISA Court is pretending to be all outraged that they could be hood-winked in such a manner. Meanwhile, they have been quiet about all the abuses by the FBI in obtaining FISA warrants against Trump associates.
If you believe the Court has any intent of reigning in the FBI’s abuses, then you are the gullible sort that still has trust in our government agencies.
“The opinion said that despite the “reported errors,” there “is reason to believe that the FBI has been doing a better job in applying the querying standard.””
That has been Wray’s “go to” statement in regards to the FBI’s actions. However, there is no proof that the FBI has mended its ways. In fact, it appears that their illegal and unconstitutional behaviors has gotten worse over the past few years.
Not sure I trust the source either.
Well, the Pedo Mickey Mouse Network is reporting this, so it may not be all that it seems.
The officials also said that even though the searches were wrongfully conducted, none of the individuals were “surveilled” and no information was specifically collected about the lawmakers or the judge. Right then why bother in the first place?
That's been a regular occurrence for ages. Nobody is held accountable, the bureau apologizes, then turns around and does it again. Rinse and repeat.
The FBI said? And to your shock and chagrin you discovered that they were displaying a lack of candor, again. And did anyone do anything to ensure that a group of ernest citizens had walked through the process had seen it in action over a period of time, reviewed the records of the folks chaged with executing this oversight, had confidence in their trustworthiness in spite of the horrible record and culture of the agency in which they worked and had actual evidence that the process worked and they had stopped these kionds of abuses.
Of course not. They were born liars, hired because they are liars, leanred advancced disembling skills in some of our finest universities and honed their skills at lying through diligent study and experience gained on the job.
Why am I NOT surprised it’s a Republican?
Tip of the iceberg.
The IC has been gathering portfolios on all the movers and shakers in the government hierarchy since at least 2009.
Remember how Brennan lied about spying on Congress? You don’t think they stopped, do you?
