Running for President Inc.

Now look at them Bozos, that’s the way you do it. You dump on Trump on C-Span TV. That ain’t working, that’s the way you do it. Money from donors and your trips for free.

Ah yes, a little Dire Straits for a nation in dire straits.

Every four years, America holds a presidential election, and every four years a bunch of people with no chance of winning enter the race and raise money. They do so because they can spend the money they raise pretty much as they want. It beats working for a living.

The federal government used to match some of the money raised, which was a porch light to these moths. Obama killed it in 2008 by refusing the money. He refused because the matching money placed restrictions on his fund-raising.

His opponent, world-class mooch John McCain, took the money because it was there. When James Carville said, “Women can be found by dragging $100 bills through a trailer park,” he should have included McCain.

Obama and McCain actually had a chance to win that year, as did Hillary. But Governors Bill Richardson and Tom Vilsack, and Senators Evan Bayh and John Edwards had no chance in heck. Still, they ran, raised money, and spent millions.

Edwards used some of the campaign money to buy off his baby mama — even as he campaigned as the fit and good-looking husband who stood by his weight-challenged wife during her bout with cancer. He really did get his chick for free.

McCain’s Republican opponents included such no-chancers as Alan Keyes and Duncan Hunter.

Third-party candidates included Ralph Nader and whoever the Libertarian candidate was that year. Nader raised more than $3 million and collected nearly $900,000 in federal matching funds.

Good opinion piece by Don Surber on the money to be made by simply running for President. Those such as Pence, Hutchinson, and Christie know they have no chance in winning the GOP nomination, so why do they campaign and pretend otherwise? It's all for the big bucks they will be able to keep.

Some run to be considered for VP or a cabinet position, as well.

That is true. But the grift and graft in those positions also pays very well (Ex. Joe Biden,et al).

We live in a democracy ... for one day every four years.
At least that’s what the Department of Defense wants us to think.
In the meantime they run everything.

I’ve thought for a long time that campaign funds for a particular office should be pooled and divided evenly among the candidates. Campaign expenditures are to be strictly accounted for, and any unspent money goes back in the pool and is held until the next election. Nobody gets to keep a nickel for himself.

Spence is out, begging for $40,000, the minimum he needs to reach the threshold, so he can get matching fed funds.

He has long since shot his candidacy down in flames, so...

Yeah, these grifters make it really hard for DeSantis since they take from him, or, at least that is what DeSantis followers believe.

Many of them love the attention, the penthouse suites, the limousines, the private jets, all paid for with other people’s money.

Bernie Sanders and his wife are the epitome of the grift. Seems like every time he drops out of a campaign, Shazam, he gets another house. The last one was by the lake! Mrs. Sanders forms PACs and nonprofits, and rakes in millions. Sanders USED TO complain about millionaires and billionaires. Now that he has gathered in millions, he complains about billionaires, and the rich. As with most socialist, communist, tyrannical tyrants, they love $$$$$ for themselves.
