House Republicans propose planting a trillion trees as they move away from climate change denial

WASHINGTON (AP) — As Speaker Kevin McCarthy visited a natural gas drilling site in northeast Ohio to promote House Republicans’ plan to sharply increase domestic production of energy from fossil fuels last month, the signs of rising global temperatures could not be ignored. Smoke from Canadian wildfires hung in the air.

When the speaker was asked about climate change and forest fires, he was ready with a response: Plant a trillion trees.

The article is almost comical. Plant a trillion trees, about the size of the continental US. Ah, but read what the environmentalists say: "And more trees could even increase the risk of wildfires by serving as fuel in a warming world." And: "thinly veiled license to pollute"

And the cost? Who’s going to get rich over this endeavor?

Here’s a clue, GOPeahens, Grasslands convert more CO2 to O2 and H2O than trees do per acre.

I understand your response. And yet, I plant trees and seeds for trees under whose shade I will never sit, because they will take 60 years or more to mature. Not so much for me but for the future. Apple, Oak, Beech, Hickory, chestnut, cherry, plum. The tale of Johnny Appleseed comes to mind.

It’s imperative to deny climate change activists the argument that forest fires are caused by climate change. Let’s burn down all trees! /s

I’m sure every state has a division of forestry that will supply cheap trees. I lost one third of my hardwoods with the extinction of the American white ash. I’ve planted 1200 black walnuts to replace them, total cost $1200. Planting trees is an excellent and inexpensive idea. We don’t need some huge federal boondoggle to accomplish it.

It can be 15 degrees under normal temperatures for six months,
but give it one day of high temperatures and all that is
forgotten.

I think it’s funny that each of the records just set, were
the highest it has been since...

In other words, it isn’t even the highest it has been.

In the early 1900s, Death Valley had a temperature of
134 degrees one day.

We have never matched that again, but last week when it
hit 128, they made such a big deal about it, that you
would have thought it was by far the highest temperature
ever.

I’m so sick of the non-stop propaganda.

I’m 67 and have a passion for planting trees, 1200 walnuts in the last four years. Planting is the easy part. Watering through the dry months is the challenge. My wife doesn’t get it. She actually calls me Mikey Walnut Seed. Keep planting.

Greatest scam in human history. The earth is 4 or so billion years old and they pick out a few selected days/years where it’s hotter than the miniscule amount of temp data they have related to earth’s temp.

If a million one dollar bills represent earth’s atmosphere then CO2 is just 4 of those dollars.

It’s not (just) the heat, it’s the humidity.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in favor of planting trees. I just wonder at what cost a government program. Worldwide. Because I’m sure they will want the US to pay for the trillion trees.

Yes, and they want to burn those four dollars, although
trees and other plants need them to survive.

These people sure are into nature... /s

That’s great. I helped my grandfathwr “re-timber” a small portion of his land many years ago. Aside from all the ill motives of ecoleftists and others, I am supportive of most reforestation efforts.

The reality is that the Do-Gooders don’t really care about planting trees.
They want population reduction. Nothing else will please them.
