Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin went 6-0 on Tuesday night as all of his endorsed state legislative candidates in contested primaries notched easy victories.
Youngkin, in March, endorsed 19 Republicans in the commonwealth's legislative races, including six in contested primaries, according to the Associated Press. Among them were state Senate candidates Emily Brewer, Tara Durant, and Bill Woolf; as well as state House of Delegates candidates John Stirrup, Lee Peters and Buddy Fowler.
Each one on Tuesday, scored decisive victories relatively early in the night. As of press time, the Associated Press had projected each candidate to win their race. Brewer claimed 59% of the vote in her contest, while Durant took 57%, Woolf took 70%, Stirrup took 64%, Peters claimed 79%, and Fowler took 57%.

I think Yongkin chose candidates that can win. Yes it would be nice to have pure a driven snow candidates, but you need to see the electorate separately to see which candidate can win. We’ve done a horrid job picking candidates that don’t fit the electorate. Perhaps we can begin doing this.
Yawn.
Did Youngkin or his SoS change any of the voting laws/rules/enforcement for these primaries?
As long as Dems control and/or game the voting process then conservatives will have a hard time winning.
Was this a statewide election?
There are no pure snow driven candidates. Our string of losses shows we haven’t figured that out.
If the winning candidates are uniParty creatures, how will it make a difference?
You make a good point.
Many people here on Free Republic, seem to take the position, that there are “RINO” Republicans running for office, whom we should NOT support, because there’s no difference between a “RINO” Republican and a Democrat in Congress, Governor’s offices, etc.
Because not just Republicans vote in the general.
And yet, there is.
It’d be nice to have pure conservatives, but sometimes you have to take halvsies.
But again, how does voting for a uniParty creature help move the country in the right direction?
I still think Youngkin is keeping his shirt clean waiting for things to play out, then he’ll jump into the 2024 Sweepstakes.
Then there are issues of who is running for offices, in the primaries. Ideally a good conservative will win primary elections, so that the GOP nominee for an office is conservative.
But sometimes there is no strong conservative running.
A good example is the Pennsylvania Senate election last year. People here complained about all 3 major candidates in the GOP primary. People here said Dr. Oz was not a true conservative, supported some liberal causes on his TV show, and had said and other done things which troubled people. Trump endorsed him but even so, people here said he wasn’t conservative.
His main opponent, David McCormick, was said by Freepers to be a “RINO”. Not worthy of support because he is a “RINO”.
Another opponent, Kathy Barnette, was dismissed as too inexperienced and new to politics, and was not ready for prime time.
Then we were all frustrated that Fetterman won that election in the general election, and some here blamed Dr. Oz for not being a good enough candidate. But based on comments beforehand, any of the 3 GOP nominees were unacceptable to many Freepers in the first place.
How do we recruit good strong conservative candidates to run in primaries? But how do we balance that against nominating candidates who can win a general election?
What do you suggest, going full commie right away?
How does it help?
Perhaps for starters, Dems won’t be as motivated to vote, period, because they won’t hate the living guts out of the “RINO”. Then people can also see how Repubs can be, not so evil.
I’m not trying to say we have to act weinie all the time. It’s just that this is reality. Think of it the other way. How do you vote depending on the Dem situation? How do those in the region vote?
Indeed.
Don’t forget Oz was a carpetbagger.
But he was also the well-known person, famous.
I guess we’re getting into risky territory. Talking about personality and character.
I’d love to have a conservative, but in lib areas the only way he’ll win is if he has good character that does not detract from the issues.
All who run will get the experience of competing in a national campaign, which will come in handy for 2028.
The real story of the Virginia primaries last night was how incredibly leftward the Democrats lurched in picking some of the most radical candidates I have ever seen run in the state.(Grew up there and left shortly after college).
Particularly in Fairfax County and adjoining areas in Northern Virginia the Democratic nominees could easily run in Nancy Pelosi's district. That's how radical they are.
“””YOUNGKIN’S****
Yes. All of the Soros DAs won.
“But again, how does voting for a uniParty creature help move the country in the right direction?”
You, Joe Biden, Heels Up Harris and Chuck Schumer all in agreement, voting Republican is useless.
Well, the right wing folks are never going to win large statewide elections in a place like VA. So, we should be happy with the right of center folks who win.
As much as the cult wants this world to be like a reality TV show, real people consider their best options for moving forward.
