Trump claims DeSantis attacks are personal, calls him ‘disloyal’ for running against him: ‘I got him elected’

Former President Donald Trump suggested that his attacks against his Republican challenger Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are personal in the second part of his exclusive interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, saying that he finds it “very disloyal” that DeSantis joined the 2024 presidential race after he helped him get elected in Florida.

Trump, who is battling DeSantis for the GOP presidential nomination, was discussing the COVID response of several Republican governors when he invoked the Florida governor’s nickname, “Rob DeSanctimonious” during the second part of the hour-long interview that aired Tuesday on “Special Report.”

“Why do you use that name?” Baier interjected.

“I got him elected,” Trump replied. “And I thought it was very disloyal when he said ‘Yes, I’d run.’ I got him past two races."

That's a pretty weak argument you're making. When you try the line about being governor not a candidate, that's a meaningless distinction. He signed that law a month before he announced, obviously his intent was clear by then.

Outside of that, your last fig leaf is to say the mean MSM will report the names of Ron's donors, and we can't have that.

Good luck convincing anyone with this line of reasoning. At least you can understand why non-Trump haters view DeSantos with suspicion.

We are not a one candidate nation. We give the people a choice early on.

—> So sick and tired of Trump supporters thinking trump is owed the nomination.

I don’t know anyone who thinks that.

—>> He is not. He needs to work for it like everyone else.

Trump works 24/7

—> DeSantis is no longer in debt to trump. It’s done.

And now DeSnakis has demonstrated he is a foolish man, rooted in GOPe networks, and not a trustworthy man.

—>> Trump is too immature to be president again.

Was it the economy? The peace? The ending of wars, the putting America first, the keeping of promises, the lower taxes?? Getting in the ring against the media, deep state, RINOS?

Something triggered you.

And whatever it was, doesn’t compare to what Trump accomplished, nor his ability to accomplish those things in the face of 6 years of opposition, accusations, lawfare, and treachery.

DeSnakis is now exposed for who he is.

I used to respect him and think he was next.

Now, I think he will not have enough MAGA supporters behind him to win, even if he got the nomination.

There is only one path forward to a Rob nomination. Like any tribute band, the original giant must die or he has no market.

At this point, DeSnakis has made himself odious enough to a vast sweep of MAGA that I don’t believe that would do it either.

Trump is childish, and so are most of his blind disciples.

Thanks for the illustration.

The deep state is not going to allow Trump to be president again. Period. We’re watching the plan to take him out unfold right before our eyes. Even if he gets past the classified documents trial, which is unlikely, he still has two grand juries in GA and DC teeing up to indict him.

And yet many FReepers will cut off their nose to spite their face and sit it out if Trump’s not the nominee. Because apparently Biden is better than DeSantis, or some such craziness.

> Donald Trump is the flip side of the Hillary Clinton coin. Bitter, entitled and long past his used by date. <

I must reluctantly agree. But he’s also the candidate who can best put MAGA back in place.

And that’s what’s so incredibly frustrating here. Trump is pushing supporters away, for no good reason. I’m seeing this on Free Republic. And I’m seeing this with my conservative friends. Much of the passion for Trump is gone.

As a side note, I kinda gave Trump a pass for his unforced errors when he first became president. After all, he was a rookie in all this. But Trump seems to have learned nothing since then. I’m still a Trump guy, for no other reason than I’m I incensed by his indictment.

But I’m hanging by a thread.

Thank you for pushing back on the moronic mantra of "DeSanctimonious shudda waited til 2028."

The midwit lunacy of that statement is rivaled only by how everybody who mindlesdly parrots it thinks they are so original

Wahhhh!

What a whiner.

President Trump DeSantis owes you NOTHING.

Accept it.

Beat him in the primaries instead of whining like a little girl.

“I used to respect him (DeSantis) and think he was next.”

That’s exactly my thinking. Focus on the “USED TO”.

We elected President Trump. He seems to think he was anointed President or something.

That is not the situation. The republic is about to die. If we don’t reelect Trump, it is dead.

From what I have seen DeSantis has lost no support to RFK Jr. Trump, OTOH, should be worried there.

The republic is about to die. If we don’t reelect Trump, it is dead.

This is the problem with creepy Trump cultists....they see Trump as some savior.

There is NOTHING to indicate Trump will do different if he gets elected. He backed off Hillary, he didn't fire people an he made the swamp stronger.

Trump's support for RINOs like McCarthy and Dr Azz indicate he has no intention of cleaning house in his own party, let alone the nation.

Trump's endorsement of an assault weapons ban and a legalizing abortion make him unsuitable for any REAL conservative.

Only fake conservatives or those who fell into the cult would support a candidate endorsing those policies.

Trump, who attacked Ted Cruz’s wife on her looks, resorts to name calling so often like 4th grade kids.....and he’s calling out someone for personal attacks.

You can’t make this up. It’s bizarre.

Trump and his cultish followers love to dish it out but they are, to quote Trump himself, “p******” who don’t like to take it in return.

Adam Putnam appears to be a good man:

I completely understand where you're coming from. There was no one who wanted to see the man succeed and be reelected more than I did.

The fact that Trump was under siege from day one of his presidency only reinforced my support for him and my contempt for his enemies

However, I think most rational people,if they are honest with themselves, would admit that Trump had character flaws they knew could prove fatal to his political fortunes if he didn't get them under control. I have come to the conclusion the man is a narcissist. He conflates what's good for the country with what's good for Trump. He is his Own Worst Enemy No one is bound by their previous support for Trump to nominate him to lose the general election....which he damned sure is certain to do
