LANSING, Mich. A Michigan House committee plans to hold a hearing on Tuesday regarding two bills that would amend the penal code and make vaguely defined “hate” speech a felony subject to severe penalties.
House Bills 4474 and 4475 state, “A person is guilty of a hate crime if that person intimidates or harasses another individual; causes bodily injury or severe mental anguish to another individual; uses force or violence on another individual; damages, destroys, or defaces any real, personal, digital, or online property of another individual; or threatens, by word or act, to do any of the above described actions, if the person, regardless of the existence of any other motivating factors, intentionally targets the individual or engages in the action based in whole or in part on any of the following actual or perceived characteristics of another individual.”
Among other things, the bill covers anything that could disparage a person’s race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or age.
“Under this amended criminal statute if you speak out against abortion, teenage transgender males showering with females and taking their spots on women’s teams, illegal immigrants flooding our nation, or simply refuse to use a person’s preferred pronouns, you will be prosecuted for a felony and can receive up to 5 years in prison and be fined $10,000.00,” attorney David Kallman wrote over the weekend. “But rest assured this law will not be enforced equally. If you want to attack pro-life pregnancy centers, assault others, or burn government buildings like Antifa, BLM, and other leftist groups, feel free to continue with your lawless behavior. This law is not meant for you.”

Had to be my state, huh?
Due to the popularity of the pro-abortion amendment (passed), lots of women and young voters rushed to vote Dem. Thus, now we have the wretched Gretchen Whitmer backed for the first time in decades with a Dem House and Dem Senate and Attorney General and Sec. of State.
They are boldly working to bring Chinese Communist style Dem/Soros totalitarianism to Michigan.
When anyone may assert they experienced "severe mental anguish," and that this "effect" demonstrates "hate speech," any one of us could allege the same over and over again. The state and courts would be tied in knots. And by the way, I am offended deeply and mentally anguished over the wording of the proposed law! Class action law suit against the state and legislature!
I’m on the edge of 51% wanting to force myself to stay alive one day at a time and 49% wanting the relief of death.

Good God, there are so many ways that can be interpreted. “That Trump hat intimidates and harasses me! Arrest him!”
It’ll be struck down immediately, but I’d love for Michiganders to start suing people for using “cis-gender” as a hurtful word.

I suspect that’s why they are clearing out the prisons of murders and rapists. Can’t have over-crowding you know! The courts frown sharply on such things. Therefore release the thugs and lock up the conservatives.

The proposed law is obviously unconstitutional. If it gets to the Supreme Court it would be immediately struck down.
That’s for now. After a few more Democrat appointments, the law will pass muster.
The only question is how the Court would explain that it is constitutional.

I know what you mean. I live in Wayne county, and it doesn’t feel like my vote is worth a damn. Not that our reps at the state level did much that I can think of while they still held majorities. Voted against Props 1, 2, & 3 last year, just reading them on the ballot I knew there was more bad things in each that somebody who knows/knew better wouldn’t want. I grew up here, but as of now the plan is to retreat to friendlier lines once my aging parents have passed on.

I don’t see how this will pass SCOTUS. It is a clear 1st amendment violation.
No subsequent tyrannical nation implementing thought control has ever come close to the current global environment and its thought control technologies...
Particularly in the communist-controlled United States...
