City threatens to not extend MSG's permit allowing it to seat up to 19,800 spectators, and thus restrict it to 2,500 spectators.

Business meets government extortion - plain and simple. Everyone who works in government are scumbags.

“ Bad news for Billy Joel?”
Billy Joel is done there. Already announced. Bad news for Dolan and MSG Entertainment.

They never were compatible. It has always been an issue off and on since the current structure was built in the 1960s.
I once cared, but not since I left NYC in the 1980s. I care even less now.

They should have thought of that before they tore down the old Penn Station.

They turned Penn Station into a miserable dungeon.

As the city of New York continues to die, it’s hard to see
why it even needs a 20+ track train station.
May the entire facility can be converted into a high
security prison.

Threaten to move the Garden to Yonkers, thus depriving NYC of tax revenues. Then stand back as all the a**holes start yelling and screaming.

Grand Central has 47 tracks on two levels. It is physically the largest station in the world, still.
There might have been more stations in Manhattan if the city had not banned steam locomotive operation south of 42nd Street, too.

As a teen in the 1970’s, it was great to take the train from NJ to Penn Station then walk upstairs to the Garden. The smoke on those trains is something I will not forget.
