A mob of Penn Station travelers fled the transit hub in hysteria after Amtrak police officers used a stun gun on a man. The busy Penn Station was already a mad house from a NJ Transit train that stalled in a tunnel, backing up service for more than two hours ahead of the Friday rush on a holiday weekend. By 6:30 p.m., shortly after the stalled train was taken to Penn Station, riders stampeded away from the site where the man was hit with the stun gun. Luggage food and clothes were strewn across the floor.

Canadian authorities announced Monday they have broken up an Al Qaeda-linked terror plot to attack a passenger train as it crossed over a bridge in the Toronto area. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Monday that two suspects have been arrested on terrorism charges. Chiheb Esseghaier and Raed Jaser, who live in greater Montreal and Toronto -- were conspiring to carry out an Al Qaeda-supported attack against Via Rail, but posed no immediate threat to the public. "It was definitely in the planning stage but not imminent," RCMP chief superintendent Jennifer Strachan told reporters at a news conference. Read more:...

A Long Island man confessed to feeding Al Qaeda information about New York's subways and LIRR trains, triggering last year's Thanksgiving Eve terror alert, the feds say. Bryant Neal Vinas, 26, the son of South American immigrants and a convert to Islam, was captured in November in Pakistan after he joined in a rocket attack on U.S. troops in Afghanistan, according to court papers unsealed Wednesday. He confessed his treason almost immediately and began cooperating, offering information of potentially great value because he had met with high-level operational leaders, sources said. Vinas is one of a handful of Americans charged...

A 27-year-old electrician, de Menezes was by all accounts totally unconnected to terrorism. But through his behavior and cruel coincidence, de Menezes gave police good reason to think he might be planning to detonate a bomb. In the age of terrorism, police can kill an innocent man and still be doing the right thing. This strange new reality makes us all players in a film-noir existence. Film noir refers to the eerie postwar movies in which characters grope through a world of dark menace and unanswered questions. They don't know what's going on, only that danger hovers. Here in Grand...

BOMB SCARES JOLT MIDTOWN By LARRY CELONA, SAM GUSTIN and CYNTHIA R. FAGEN The city had a bad case of the jitters yesterday. In two dramatic noontime incidents, a bomb scare forced the evacuation of Penn Station, and a tour bus was searched by armed SWAT teams who ordered passengers to hold their hands over their heads and file off the double-decker. At Penn Station, a disgruntled passenger bound for Albany — identified by Amtrak Police sources as Raoul Claudio, 43, of The Bronx — was charged with making a terrorist threat after he allegedly threw his suitcase at a...

Police fear five empty suitcases left at Penn Station, New York FBI headquarters and other security hot spots in early April were a test by terrorists bent on a Madrid-type attack on commuter rails, The Post has learned. A confidential Metropolitan Transit Authority police bulletin, titled "Possible Surveillance Testing Tactics," reveals K-9 cops are on edge over a "suspicious packages pattern" they encountered between the last week of March and the first week of April. "During the past week and a half, the K-9 Unit has responded to approximately five calls for unattended/suspicious packages which they cleared," the confidential bulletin...

Every train headed for Penn Station during this summer's four-day GOP convention will be stopped and searched by cops and bomb-sniffing dogs, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly announced yesterday - an unprecedented plan likely to create a nightmare for millions of passengers on seven subway lines, two commuter trains and Amtrak. Inconvenience aside, sources familiar with convention security plans say, Kelly believes it is the best way to prevent a terrorist attack. "It's our goal to check every train, physically, with dogs and with police officers before it comes into Penn Station," Kelly said. "I think we're going to be well...
