James Crown, one of the wealthiest men in Chicago, is aiming to use his national clout in business to try to fight crime in the city. The ambitious goal? To reduce the number of killings in Chicago to fewer than 400 a year within five years.
On Thursday, Crown — whose family was ranked 34th-richest in America by Forbes in 2020, worth an estimated $10.2 billion — is announcing a crime-reduction strategy focused on getting jobs for thousands of people in the most dangerous parts of Chicago, providing millions of dollars for civilian violence-intervention programs, strengthening law enforcement agencies and investing in low-income communities.
He’s a leader of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, which spent six months doing research and conducting interviews with former Mayor Lori Lightfoot, former police Supt. David Brown, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and leaders of dozens of organizations with ties to the criminal justice system.

Publicity photo at link. See his smiling face. You can tell he really believes it.
Think about it. Getting the murders down to 400 a year counts as success. I looked up the number of murders in Tokyo. Thirty.
It's a front page news story, but I tagged it as 'editorial' because it is.
Uh...vote in conservatives?
Good luck with that! As you said, it’s amazing that fewer that 400 murders a year counts as success.
For the most recent in the windy city’s criminal element, you can go to
For instance, “The man whose shooting by Chicago police officers sparked misinformation and widespread looting in August 2020 was found guilty Wednesday on 8 felonies, including four counts of attempted murder of police officers.”
tokyo's population is also about 80% larger than Chicago's

How stupid is this guy?
I guess those rascally ‘teens’ just need jobs. That’s all they really want. They just want a chance.
They say if you drop your wallet on the sidewalk in Tokyo, and you came back a week later, it would still be there will all the money and credit cards inside.
And midnight basketball.

He’s actually on the right track there. There is truth in the old saying: Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.
Trump understood this. His plan to bring industry back to America would have been a boon to the cities. Factories with good jobs, apprentice programs, etc.
Trump failed due to the Deep State globalists. Unfortunately I predict this guy will fail due to Chicago corruption.
Historically, Chicago has been famously corrupt for decades. Since he has -- past tense -- not been involved in public safety, apparently "the cost of doing business" is getting serious enough to get involved -- late to the game.
And within the black race, the murder issue is, very specifically, a problem among young men. Interesting also how their murder rate jumped specifically after the Feast Day of St. Floyd.
“Jobs” — yeah, that’s the ticket! Just what career criminals want. “snicker” indeed.
It’s a whole steaming pant load of useless feel-good pablum. He must be getting near the age where he’s going to meet his maker and wants to get square with the Big Guy before arriving at the Pearly Gates.
“civilian violence-intervention programs” — nothing like social workers to tamp-down violent crime.
He should spend his money getting to the root of the Cook County problem — Democrats.
The last year we we in HK there were 4 murders. But Tokyo is a bigger city.
Get some black dude elected states attorney then implant a law-and-order department. Be the anti-Soros.
Al Capone is paying attention from Hell and saying crime in Chicago was a lot lower under his watch.
More likely, someone would pick it up, and they, or the police would seek you out to return it.
Never experienced that, but have regularly seen businessmen in suits passed out drunk early in the mornings, sleeping on benches or subways, completely unmolested. The "salaryman" culture has mostly disappeared, but the parks, subways, etc... are still completely safe.
It isn't a legal requirement, but it is considered a breach of etiquette if you don't.
True story. I slept through a train stop on night and had to get off at the next station and take a train in the other direction back. In my hurry to get off, my wallet came out and got caught in the seat crack before I noticed it.
Next morning, I'm looking for the wallet to pay the house rent, so there was about $1000 in cash. I'm beginning to get panicky when the phone rings. It is the train station. They have the wallet. They got my phone number from calling one of the credit card companies in the wallet. Can I come down and claim it?
I take the train, show them my ID and offer the customary 10% reward. They explain as railroad employees, they can't take that. So I bow and thank them profusely. They then ask if I took the train to get there. I nod and they hand me a courtesy ticket for the return fare (about $1.50). This was just outside Tokyo on the KODAN HOKUSO line.
They had jobs. The rioters and looters destroyed them.
