‘They should be embarrassed’: Ukraine’s Kostyuk calls out French Open crowd after boos
France 24 ^

Posted on 05/29/2023 3:24:46 AM PDT by FarCenter

Kostyuk, the world number 39, had warned she would not shake hands with Russian and Belarusian players due to the ongoing war in Ukraine – a stance she and other Ukrainian athletes have stuck to since Moscow’s forces invaded their country last year, with support from Belarus.

The 20-year-old from Kyiv duly avoided her opponent on Court Philippe Chatrier, the French Open’s showpiece arena, after losing 6-3 6-2 in a lopsided contest with world number two Aryna Sabalenka.

But she was taken aback by what followed.

A significant part of the crowd booed and whistled at her as she skipped the customary handshake at the net and walked straight to the umpire. The noise only got louder as she picked up her gear and walked off the court.

“I have to say, I didn’t expect it,” Kostyuk later said at a lengthy post-match press conference. “But I have no reaction to it. People should be honestly embarrassed, but this is not my call. I don’t know. I feel fine.”

A confused Sabalenka initially thought that the boos were aimed at her. She responded with a sarcastic bow, at first, before acknowledging the crowd and thanking them for their support. She later said her opponent did not deserve to leave the court in such a manner, suggesting that the crowd might not have been aware of the protests by Ukrainian athletes.

“We all know Ukrainian girls will not shake hands with us, so it’s kind of not a surprise for us,” Sabalenka said at her press conference. “But probably the public today was surprised. They saw it as disrespect to me as a player, so that’s why it was booing her.”

The Great Silent Majority across the world see this incredibly dangerous, bloody and unprovoked globalist power play for what it is. The Western government oligarchs and their puppet press squelch our opposition so you rarely are able to see it.

A reality check, for those few remaining freepers who still value reality when it comes to this war.

These ethnic hatreds have no place at sporting events.

Athletes should be told that if they fail to be sportsmen they will be disqualified from the next event.

Ukraine is a kleptocracy and run by the most corrupt people.

It’s not ethnic hatreds.

It’s an invasion.

Then the athletes should be back in Ukraine helping defend their country. Why are they playing a stupid game in France instead?

You know the best part? The Russians are correcting their early mistakes and gaining valuble learning experiences in how to fight NATO and its weapons systems more effectively. Eventually, egos will decide to send more advanced systems to Zelenskyy, setting NATO up for a more difficult fight later, perhaps even a loss, if direct conflict occurs.

In the meantime, Ukraine just keeps conscripting more and more supposedly dedicated, ready to die for their country and inexperienced cannon fodder. The Ivy League globalist know-it-alls who run this country and hate Russia so much can pat themselves on the back for all this. Way to go!

Right, the Ukrainian athlete should ignore the daily missiles flying from Belarus killing civilians.

Right, the only thing the Russians are "learning" is that everything in their country is corrupt sh_t including their once vaunted military.

Sure, the French believe in surrendering and shaking hands.

Yes, It is the Ukrainians who learn and are innovative. And for all the publicity surrounding sophisticated weapons from the West like Javelin ATMs, it should be remembered that the Russians have lost many combat vehicles to old fashioned Soviet era equipment such as relatively short-ranged RPGs. It takes guts to get close to a tank or BMP with such weapons and the Ukrainians have demonstrated their courage consistently.

And that doesn't sound familiar? No, Russians already know that. When Mother Russia finally gets a bloody nose, Russians who are on the fence are going to ignore all that and support Putin. We have misread them too many times going back to fall of the Berlin Wall. Don't mistake laziness for stupidity. This isn't Afghanistan, it's their backyard. Western Europe, as usual, is going to expect us to bail them out in the unlikely event Russia goes beyond Ukraine. But given the changing attitude about this war, they don't seem to consider that as much of a threat anymore. Not surprising as much of Western Europe thinks or are taught that Russia saved them from the Germans. So what are we doing there?

Wagner just defeated the best military NATO has in Europe. They did this even though they were occupying a heavily fortified city that had a maze of bunkers and tunnels running underneath it. People can downplay that all they want but it was a significant battle. Underestimate the enemy at your own peril. The Russian military is much better today then it was at the start of this war.

People are simply growing weary of the globalist-backed Ukrainians and their sense of entitlement.

You are seriously delusional. Stop reading moronic russian propaganda. West has not sent its best tanks, jets, missiles, etc, and what they have sent is in small amounts.

The Russian military is much better today then it was at the start of this war.

That's not saying much.

I’m not OK with Arab athletes refusing to compete against or shake hands with Israeli athletes, and I’m not OK with this incident either. Don’t drag political and social issues into sports.

I wonder if sporting events were called off during World War II.
