My book was published April 18, 2023 and is available on AMAZON. I would be grateful if you would read AND offer a review on Amazon, which is very important for the book to get traction.
Here are a few items of “Advance Praise” by people I really respect who took the time to read advance copies:
“Aspen, Colorado, is one of the most celebrated places in the United States, but like any other community it has its preening airheads, community-minded heroes, political bigots and ripoff artists. What most communities don’t have, however, is an alert critic who has seen it all and can write it up. Glenn Beaton is to Aspen as Thorton Wilder was to Our Town. He lived there for many years, got to know it all, and, finally, in disillusion, abandoned it. This book tells you why.”

Don’t look now, but on Wednesday of last week the EPA basically announced they’re going to end internal combustion engine vehicles. It will not end well for the USA.
Crested Butte the same thing, It was kind of funny and cute in the hippie days when street fairs got to be fun for kids. It just got more and more political. I cannot imagine what it has been like in the last decade.
Why may I ask, if driving from Tennessee to California would you deteor through Aspen Colorado??? Or were you just taking some longer than needed scenic route?
I don’t think Hunter Thompson would have tolerated the wokeists.
Hopefully Americans wake up soon.
Amazon’s Write up on this new book.
What happened to Aspen?
Long after its boom and bust as a silver mining town, post-war Aspen was recreated by army veterans and a Chicago industrialist as an intellectual retreat, a world-class ski resort, and a natural paradise. But then, it was taken over by drugs, crime, class warriors, lowlifes in subsidized housing, and high-lifes in $100 million mansions.
High Attitude outlines the history of Aspen through the story of Hunter S. Thompson; the ’70s shooting of Spider Sabich by his movie star wife; a casual pass-through murder by Ted Bundy, who was later apprehended and brought back to Aspen only to escape through an unlocked jailhouse window to murder again; the 2000s frolicking of Charlie Sheen; and the drunken bawdiness of the Kennedys throughout.
Aspen is a place where the DEA keeps impending drug raids secret from the pro-drug sheriff for fear that the dealers will be tipped off and where multimillion-dollar, slope side, subsidized housing goes to privileged insiders with seven-figure net worths and $300,000-a-year incomes.
High Attitude is ugly, riveting, and instructive on what other resorts—and the rest of America—should avoid.
Mr. Putin will make sure America wakes up fast. That or start to learn to speak Chinese and realize the Chinese will not put up with this for a moment. Lots of young people will be in slave labor camps chopping down trees in Alaska to feed the papermills of Peking.
And how they ruin everything they touch, past present and future.
Yes, hopefully!
They probably resemble the socialist “paradises” of Cuba or Venezuela now.
Aspen/Boulder were the obvious targets in the South Park episode years ago talking about towns where everyone drove Pri-i (plural of Prius), and loved to bend down to smell their own farts.
Woke liberal’s are like locusts, they destroy everything they touch.
I’ve already ordered a paperback copy; Kindle N/A.
I took I-70, the central, scenic route that goes over the Rockies and down the Colorado River.
Aspen is not on the I-70 (quite a ways south of I-70) and on any East-West, West-East trip accross Colorado, using I-70, Aspen IS, as I said, quite a Detour.
Aspen and other ski areas have been corrupted by libtards/leftists/socialists/communists/Marxists/anarchists for several decades. REAL Americans should just stay away. The others will die-off soon enough.
Nor P.J. O’Rourke.
