A couple of decades ago, I got a very generous early retirement package, with unused vacations, I basically had a year off with pay and benefits.
We thought about relocating, and we first checked out seaside towns, and discovered most were corrupted by/ran/ruined/ libtards/leftists/socialists/communists/Marxists/anarchists.
Then, she suggested ski towns/communities, and they often were worse than the pot ridden seaside communities.
We wanted: Good health care and a serviceable airport not to travel, but for my trips as a consultant and for families to visit us.
Last but not least, the new community needed to be basically
conservative.
We decided to stay where we still are.
Brookings, Oregon came close.
Same for the “shore” town of NJ, MD, DE, FL Keys and others — seriously polluted with leftists/socialists/communists/marxists/anarchists/liberals etc etc etc. They’re not worth vacationing at, anymore.

My wife has two married siblings living in the midwest and every winter one couple went to the east coast of Floriduh and the other couple went to the West Coast.
They cancelled their ressies the winter before Covid due to what you posted.
Best time to visit “shore” towns is in the Winter; no traffic, you can park on the beach, eat at nice restaurants wo/ high tourist prices, shop at stores in peace wo/ all the lib crazies bothering you, etc.
