The Bullet Train Epitomizes Golden State Corruption
American Greatness ^ | 4/19/23 | Edward Ring

It sounded too good to be true, and it was. Travel from downtown San Francisco to downtown Los Angeles in two hours via high-speed rail. California voters in 2008 approved Proposition 1A, authorizing $9.95 billion in general obligation bonds to build this so-called “bullet train.” They were told not only that the total cost would only be $33 billion but also that the entire 500-mile system would be running by 2030.

Fat chance.

In March of this year, the California High-Speed Rail Authority released its latest progress report. The project is now projected to cost $127 billion, and there is no longer a projected completion date. The initial stretch of track, a 171-mile segment across the sparsely populated, pancake-flat San Joaquin Valley, is projected to be done by 2030 at a cost of $35 billion.

The budget for the bullet train continues to grow like the Blob, sucking in all the money that comes its way.

What an easy way to pay-off friends (or enemies) and stick the bill to the tax-payers.

If they actually wanted a bullet train system to be built, they should have hired the Japanese, who keep adding long segments built in a few years rather than a few decades.

But actually having a bullet train system was never the intention. In Japan, the issue is never the issue, the issue is always the nation. In CaliMarxia, the issue is always the revolution.

Eventually this project, like the bridge over the river Kwai will be completed. Suspect the Democrats in California will celebrate. Suspect the Governor, most of the Legislature, big donors, Hollywood celebrities and of course pardoned felons will board the first train in San Francisco and ride it down to LA. It will be quite a sight.

There's not a snowball's chance in hell it is completed. Certainly not in its present form or administration

Reality (in the form of bankruptcy or insolvency) will intrude.

And I predict it will be their last unless air travel is banned.

$127 Billion!!!

Article outlines a lot of useful infrastructure that has been shelved by the lefties, including things like fixing our damn freeways, bridges, water storage...things the population actually needs.

Yet my neighbors will vote for the same marxists again and again.

Agreed. For the reasons you state, it is impossible that this will ever be built. To your list I would add that the political will of the gullible electorate ran out a long time ago on this project, and the environmental and eminent domain lawsuits in the urban areas would take years and years and billions in attorneys fees

Ok, 35% of the total length - in the easiest terrain - will be built for the initial projected cost of the entire system in the initially projected time frame.

That there is some solid project execution.
